Why is faith so valuable? And what are we Christians supposed to do about it?

Written as incidental music to accompany the narration of The Gospel of John (which will follow shortly) in its entirety this work can stand alone as an "overture". Though not intended to depict any specific incident from this gospel, its aim is to capture and express something of the essence of this remarkable man, sent as a gift from heaven ("The Word became flesh and dwelt among us") as described by John. The resolute purpose of His mission, the sheer joy of the Life that He came to give us, the pathos of all those in desperate need whom He rescued along the way, the sublime agony of intercession in the garden of Gethsemane , the inexorable and tragic march to the cross bearing the terrible weight of humanity's sin, the majestic triumph that it ultimately won with the glorious resurrection, the tender care for His disciple by lake Galilee before His ascension and, throughout, the great love of the Father and His Son for the people of the Earth. "For God so loved the world that He gave..."

Finally, although of course "Soli Deo Gloria" I would like to dedicate this overture to Janet my devoted wife whose selfless care for me radiates daily the beauty of the living Christ.
