How Is He Podcast | Ep. 124
Podge & Guich's guest today is someone who probably needs very little introduction around Carlow & its surrounding areas.
If you've spent any amount of time in Carlow town, chances are you've heard the name Bramley's. And behind that famous name is a family story that goes all the way back to 1946. Bramley's Jewellers was started by Pat's father, Bill, and his mother Maureen. Bill was a watch and clockmaker who made his way from Athy to Carlow, where he eventually set up the business on Dublin Street. And Pat has been right at the heart of that story.
He grew up over the shop, trained as a watchmaker, came back into the family business and, alongside his wife Dympna, helped take Bramley's through decades of change. He's seen Carlow town change beyond recognition, he's seen the way people shop completely transformed, and he's had to adapt the business while keeping the family tradition alive.
And today, that tradition continues with the next generation, with Philip and Stuart involved in the business.
This isn't just a story about jewellery. It's a story about family, Carlow, business, hard work, changing times, and keeping a name alive for generations. And the lads would definitely say there are a few stories from living over a jeweller's shop that probably haven't been told publicly yet!
