Today’s guest, James Sallis, tallied up the 10 leading causes of death in the US, which includes heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, injuries, and suicides, and of the top ten causes of death, James found that seven of those issues are made worse by driving. While crashes are an obvious risks of driving, the simple act of sitting in the car for the length of your commute can exasperate the leading causes of death.

James F. Sallis, Ph.D is Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health at University of California San. His primary research interests are promoting physical activity and understanding policy and environmental influences on physical activity, nutrition, and obesity. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
