EPISODE 6: STOP WAITING… | Faith Requires Action
Are you really waiting on God, or is God waiting on you to be obedient to what He's already given you? In Episode 6 of The H.U.M.A.N Experience with Dr. Lee Hughes, we're having an honest conversation about faith, obedience, procrastination, personal accountability, and the importance of following through. Drawing from James 1:22–25 and Jesus' Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25:14–30, Dr. Lee challenges us to move beyond simply hearing God's Word and begin putting it into action. Sometimes we spend so much time waiting for the perfect opportunity that we overlook what God has already placed in our hands. Through everyday situations and personal experiences, including opening Quality Qutz Barbershop in rural Murphysboro, Illinois, Dr. Lee reminds us that we must be faithful stewards of what we've been given.
The question isn't how much you've been given. The question is: What are you doing with it?
IN LOVING MEMORY OF EVANGELO "VANGIE" This episode opens with a special dedication to my beloved nephew, Evangelo, affectionately known as Vangie, who tragically passed away on October 30, 2020. As we remember his life, his love, and the memories he left behind, we continue to keep his spirit alive in our hearts. Vangie, we love you, and you will never be forgotten.
Continued love and prayers for my sister and our entire family as we honor his memory.

You may not control everything that happens in your life, but you still have choices—and God can help you make the most of them.
In Episode 5 of The H.U.M.A.N Experience, “YOU HAVE THE POWER!” Dr. Lee Hughes explores God’s power working within us through Ephesians 3:20. From a childhood memory of He-Man to the prodigal son’s decision to return home, this honest conversation connects faith with everyday choices: pausing before responding, asking for help, renewing your mind, and taking the next step—even when you’re nervous.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT? | Episode 4
Sometimes the biggest obstacle standing between where you are and where you're going isn't your circumstances—it's what you've been focusing on!
What are you looking at?
Are you looking at your past or your future? Your problems or your possibilities? Your own growth or everybody else's life?
In Episode 4 of The H.U.M.A.N Experience with Dr. Lee Hughes, Dr. Lee challenges listeners to take a closer look at their perspectives, priorities, and what receives their attention.
We live in a world where social media makes it easy to compare our lives to someone else's highlight reel. We see their accomplishments, relationships, careers, and possessions, and sometimes forget that God has given each of us our own journey, purpose, and growth opportunities.
But here's the question: While you're busy looking at everybody else, who's looking at you?
Drawing from biblical principles, including Jeremiah 29:11, Jesus' teaching about the speck and the beam, and the powerful story of Joseph, Dr. Lee explores how our perspective can influence our decisions, relationships, faith, and personal growth.
In this episode, we'll discuss:
Why your current circumstances don't have to determine your future.
The dangers of comparing your life to someone else's journey.
Why self-examination is more productive than constantly judging others.
How Joseph's life reminds us that setbacks don't necessarily cancel our purpose.
The importance of focusing on what you can change rather than what you cannot control.
How faith and intentional thinking can help you see beyond your present situation.
Sometimes we spend so much time looking at what's wrong, who's ahead of us, or what we don't have that we overlook the opportunities right in front of us.
Your perspective matters. Your focus matters. And what you choose to look at can influence where you go next.
So before you spend another day examining everybody else's life, take a moment to ask yourself:
WHAT AM I LOOKING AT?
Because life happens to all of us, but growth is a personal choice.

YOU ARE A SURVIVOR! | Episode 2
Before you ever understood what survival meant, you were already a survivor!
Life has a way of presenting challenges that we never asked for, experiences we never expected, and circumstances that sometimes leave us wondering how we made it through. But here's the reality: You're still here, and your story isn't over!
In Episode 2 of The H.U.M.A.N Experience with Dr. Lee Hughes, Dr. Lee takes listeners on a personal journey through his experiences growing up in Little Rock, Arkansas, and Chicago, Illinois, while reflecting on the challenges, adversity, and life lessons that helped shape the man he is today.
This episode is about more than surviving difficult circumstances. It's about recognizing your strength, acknowledging what you've been through, and understanding that your past does not have to determine your future.
Together, we'll explore:
Why survival begins long before we recognize it.
The difference between surviving and truly living.
How adversity can influence our identity and perspective.
The importance of acknowledging our experiences without allowing them to define us.
How faith, resilience, and personal choices can help us move toward healing and growth.
Whether you've experienced childhood adversity, personal loss, disappointment, trauma, or seasons when life simply didn't make sense, this conversation is a reminder that surviving is part of your story, but it doesn't have to be the end of your story.
You are more than what happened to you. You are more than the obstacles you've encountered. And you have the opportunity to continue writing the next chapter of your life.
Remember, life happens to all of us, but growth is a personal choice.

WHO ARE YOU WHEN THE TITLES, ROLES, AND LABELS ARE REMOVED?
Have you ever stopped to ask yourself, "Who am I?"
In Episode 3 of The H.U.M.A.N Experience, Dr. Lee Hughes explores what happens when we become so attached to our careers, relationships, accomplishments, past experiences, and other people's expectations that we lose sight of who we really are.
Whether you're 20, 40, 50, or beyond, life brings changes that can challenge your sense of identity. Sometimes we find ourselves holding on to an old version of who we used to be instead of embracing the person we're becoming.
Drawing from personal experiences, social work, faith, and biblical wisdom, Dr. Lee discusses the difference between who you are and what you do, the importance of maturity, and how renewing your mind can help you navigate life's transitions.
Scripture References:
1 Corinthians 13:11 — Putting away childish things
Matthew 16:13–16 — Who do you say I am?
Romans 12:2 — Be transformed by the renewing of your mind
2 Corinthians 5:17 — Becoming a new creation
Here's the question: Are you living as the person you are today, or are you still trying to hold on to someone you used to be?
Your roles may change, your circumstances may change, and life may change you, but those things alone do not determine your identity.
Life happens to all of us, but growth is a personal choice.
