Having a budget helps a person become comfortable with their expenses rather than being controlled by them. The purpose of budgeting is not to be restrictive but to be aware about where your money is going and where it should go. We then talk about the very popular budgeting rule: 50/30/20 rule. The 50/30/20 rule states that you should allocate 50% of your income towards your needs, 30% towards wants and 20% towards savings. Now this is a basic rule. If you want to save and invest more, then you can reduce your expenses on wants or if you have a high paying job then your basic needs may not require for you to allocate 50% of your income towards your needs, and some of it can be used towards savings and investment. You can create a budget rule which suits your needs and wants and goals.
