We'd like to introduce you to Rory Kaye — a young man soon to turn 16, who has an ambition. An ambition to do something many could only ever dream about, never mind prepare for at such a young age.
Rory is truly dedicated and focused, aiming to win a big swim — the Channel Swim. Twenty-one miles of current-challenging effort that could see him finish in 10 hours or take 20-plus. This isn't a challenge for the faint-hearted.
The rules for Channel swimming dictate you need to be 16 years old on the day of your attempt. Rory will be celebrating his 16th birthday on the day of his. He's determined to complete this swim, and with a legacy of great swims behind him here at HUUB, we have no doubt this is something he will achieve.
How do we help him? Well, like many of us in the past who’ve had crazy ideas, we’ve learned never to say “you can’t.” This happened once before with a certain Ross Edgley, who insisted he could swim around the British Isles. We doubted him — foolishly…
So, not wanting to make the same mistake again, we're going to support Rory with goggles, swim equipment, changing robes — anything that he and his support team need for this most exciting challenge. We are also exceptionally proud to be supporting Rory, who openly addresses his challenges with neurodiversity — specifically dyspraxia — and the hurdles that presents him. But with his dogged determination, we know nothing will hold him back.
For Rory, the day is looming closer, and we are excited to meet him. We hope everyone who listens to this podcast will be truly inspired by Rory and his incredible challenge.
Below, we present a podcast with Rory, his dad, and his amazing swim coach Nikki.
