Because every individual must give an account of themselves to God. When you get to the white throne judgment, if you're lost, every individual will face God and they will not give an answer for their neighbor. They won't give an answer for their family members. They can't point the finger at religious groups that didn't tell them the truth.

God will hold every individual accountable for their own soul and for the decision that they made regarding Jesus Christ. And the idea is that no civil government—state, county, or national—has any power or say-so in who you conscientiously worship.
