Airports have a funny way of exposing us. There’s the person practically climbing onto the baggage carousel, the guy having a full-volume speakerphone conversation beside you, and the tiny internal voice wondering, “Seriously?” In this episode, I’m using a couple of airport irritations to explore something much bigger: how we respond when other people’s behavior gets under our skin, whether silence is always the kinder choice, and what it might look like to practice kindness with a backbone.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Kindness doesn't mean staying silent.
    • We've all been somebody else's irritation.

  • Style & Substance: Lessons from Fashion Week

    Send us Fan Mail

Get in the damn room. At 60, I walked into my first New York Fashion Week, surrounded by runway lights, incredible clothes, models, designers, and the unmistakable energy of Christian Siriano’s show. Somewhere between questioning whether I belonged there, sitting beside Angie Marr, meeting Billy Porter, and realizing how much confidence is actually practiced, I started seeing Fashion Week as a lesson in life: you don't have to feel ready to show up. Sometimes you just have to put on the outfit, walk through the door, let yourself be seen, and see what happens.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Confidence is practiced, not something you have to arrive with.
    • Stop making yourself invisible.
    • Serendipity requires participation.

  • Can of Corn

    Send us Fan Mail

Some things look easy because we only see the moment they succeed. In this episode, I’m talking baseball, September pressure, and the curious ways we decide that someone else’s life, talent, body, confidence, or success must come effortlessly. The phrase “can of corn” sounds simple enough, but what happens when the routine play isn’t so routine? Maybe life is like that too. We care about the outcome, but we can still remember there is a person standing underneath the pressure, doing the best they can with the play in front of them.

    Key Takeaways:

    • A blank space in life can be an opportunity, not a problem to solve.
    • The beliefs we've carried for years may not belong in the next version of our lives.
    • Asking for what you want is not the same thing as being selfish.
    • Creating something meaningful also means figuring out how to sustain it.

  • The Blank Canvas

    Send us Fan Mail

After returning from Washington and a conference full of big ideas about women, leadership, and power, I found myself staring at a different kind of question: What do I want to create next? A blank canvas can feel intimidating when you're used to having a plan, but maybe the empty space isn't asking us to have all the answers. Maybe it's giving us permission to decide what comes next, including what we want simply because we want it.

  • I Supplied the “Too”

    Send us Fan Mail

“You have broad shoulders” became “You have too broad shoulders, ” and the funny part is, nobody actually said the word too. I supplied it all by myself, then apparently carried it around in my shoulders for years. I’m wondering how many other meanings we’ve added to the things we've been told. And more importantly, what might happen if we stopped compressing ourselves and took up the space that was ours all along?

    Key Takeaways:

    • Sometimes the limits we live with are not words we were actually told, but meanings we added ourselves.
    • Awareness is a beginning, but changing the posture, belief, or pattern takes practice.
    • Equality is not about becoming the same. It is about making room for more possibilities and more choices.

  • Baggage

    Send us Fan Mail

My husband’s shoe, a bug in the bathroom, and a relationship lesson. In this episode, I’m thinking about the baggage we all bring into our relationships and why a perfect partner might be the biggest myth of all. Because real compatibility probably isn't about finding someone who checks every box. It's discovering, over time, whether the two of you can laugh at the weird stuff, carry the hard stuff, and occasionally get out of bed at 2 a.m. to handle a cockroach.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Relationship “standards” can sometimes be old wounds and fears dressed up as preferences.
    • Compatibility is not about being baggage-free. It is about learning what you can carry together.
    • The qualities that matter most often reveal themselves through time and shared experience.

  • Robotic Courtesy

    Send us Fan Mail

What does it say about us when we say please and thank you to a machine? In this episode, I’m wondering if courtesy was ever really about the machine at all. From talking to AI and waving at self-driving cars to greeting the people who clean our rooms and care for our spaces, I’m exploring how small acts of acknowledgment keep us connected to our humanity. Because maybe the real danger isn't machines becoming more human. Maybe it's humans becoming more robotic.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Courtesy is a practice that shapes the person giving it, not just the person receiving it.
    • Every person deserves to be seen and acknowledged, regardless of their job or role.
    • Small habits of kindness and curiosity can help us protect the parts of ourselves that make us human.
    • We can’t control every interaction, but we can choose the kind of person we practice being.

  • The Story in Your Closet

    Send us Fan Mail

What we wear can be tradition, protection, performance, rebellion, belonging, or simply joy. In this episode, I’m exploring the stories hiding in our closets, the versions of ourselves we may have dressed for along the way, and what happens when we finally give ourselves permission to dress for the person we are becoming.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Belonging and individuality can coexist. You don't have to choose between fitting in and being yourself.
    • The best style isn't about following rules. It's about wearing what tells the truth about who you are now.
    • Sometimes finding yourself again starts with something as simple as getting dressed.

Every generation decides what's outdated. Bell-bottoms. Rotary phones. Handwritten letters. But what if we've been throwing out a little wisdom along with the clutter? Join me as I unpack a surprisingly funny story that became a much bigger conversation about curiosity, tradition, and knowing the difference between what's obsolete and what's timeless.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Curiosity is the antidote to assumptions, myths, and misinformation.
    • Not everything that's old is obsolete. Sometimes wisdom outlasts trends.

  • Plot Twist - Storm

    Send us Fan Mail

I love a good Arizona monsoon. The lightning, the towering clouds, the smell of rain in the desert. But this storm came with an unexpected plot twist when water started pouring through my roof. As I cleaned up the mess, I couldn't help but wonder if life's storms do the same thing. They don't just make a mess. They reveal what needs our attention. In this episode, I'm sharing how one leaky roof became a reminder that resilience isn't about avoiding storms. It's about discovering what they uncover.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Resilience isn't avoiding life's plot twists. It's deciding how you'll respond when they arrive.
    • Gratitude grows when we recognize the people who help us rebuild after the storm.
    • Even life's hardest seasons can uncover unexpected beauty and strength.
