Activity Coaching Conversations

The Importance of Building Trust and How to Build a Coaching Philosophy

Listen Later

In this episode, Heather Price and Sabine Robinson talk about building trust and how to build a coaching philosophy. Sabine talks about how we can attempt to make trust more concrete and defines some of the specific elements that make for a trusting relationship. She also takes us through some of the best practices for building a coaching philosophy. In the Say that Again segment, they role-play a conversation with an FR (Financial Rep) who isn’t following through and keeping their commitments, and they demonstrate how to build an overall coaching philosophy.

Episode highlights:

01:25 – Put yourself in the shoes of a new Financial Rep. They want to know three things about you as their coach: Can I trust you? Do you care about me? Are you committed?

04:25 – Trust can be measured by two things: your character, and your competence.

07:25 – Coaching philosophy is, basically, how you approach coaching holistically. Your philosophy should reflect your values, your personality, and your objective.

09:46 – If you want to build an overall coaching philosophy, start with this three-part base: 1) believe in them, 2) tell them the truth, 3) be patient.

Say That Again:

12:40 – Sabine and Heather take this three-point philosophy and role-play how that might show up in a conversation with an FR. Heather plays an FR who forgets to ask for referrals.
