Jesus is the believer's EVERYTHING! And until you believe that, and put all His promises into action in your life, you won't be able to live the abundant life He died for us to have. And you can't believe until you know the Word. Thus it is of the utmost importance to read and study it; have it at your fingertips, or the tips of your tongue, so that you can use them to stand strong and steadfast as life's tough situations arise and threaten to defeat our faith.
