  • Racial Justice at Work: Disrupting the Racist Narrative in Marketing and Advertising
The messages created by cultural gatekeepers such as marketers have the power to perpetuate inequities — and to also disrupt them. In this companion episode for the book Racial Justice at Work: Practical Solutions for Systemic Change (Berrett-Koehler Publishers, 2023), lead author Mary-Frances Winters and special projects editor Gabrielle Gayagoy Gonzalez sit down with Dr. Megan Larson, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for The Winters Group, Inc., to discuss her chapter “Disrupting the Racist Narrative in Marketing and Advertising” with special guests from the Ferrara Candy Company, Chief Marketing Officer Gregory Guidotti and Vice President Natasha Miller Williams, Head of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. • Racial Justice at Work: How Algorithms Automate Bias
For too long, tech has been overwhelmingly dominated by the white male perspective. In order to achieve racial justice and truly move toward socially conscious design in tech and artificial intelligence (AI), allies must ask themselves if they are prepared to give up power in order to ensure equity for all. In this companion podcast for Racial Justice at Work: Practical Solutions for Systemic Change (Berrett-Koehler Publishers, 2023), lead author Mary-Frances Winters and special projects editor Gabrielle Gayagoy Gonzalez sit down with Megan Ellinghausen, Marketing and Branding Specialist at The Winters Group, Inc., to explore her chapter, “How Algorithms Automate Bias.” Listen in as they interrogate the different ways that tech and AI uphold systemic racism and tune in to the discussion on actions you can take to protect your peace and curate your social media with intention. • Racial Justice at Work: Going Beyond the Performative in Learning and Development
Sometimes contracting undifferentiated racial justice learning for “all staff” groups may not be the most effective approach for learning and development. For example, employees who identify as Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) already navigate fatigue and should not be burdened with educating their white colleagues about racism. For more nuanced learning, race-based caucus groups can be a practical alternative. In this companion episode for the book Racial Justice at Work: Practical Solutions for Systemic Change (Berrett-Koehler Publishers, 2023), lead author Mary-Frances Winters and special projects editor Gabrielle Gayagoy Gonzalez sit down with Leigh Morrison, Learning and Innovation Manager for The Winters Group, Inc., to explore her chapter “A Racial Justice-Centered Approach to Learning and Development.” Listen in as they discuss how to disrupt the potential harm posed by employee education and lift up ways that lessons can be experienced with care and fidelity to our common humanity. • Racial Justice at Work: Inviting Conversation with Loving Accountability
Racial justice requires that white folks and non-Black people of color be clear in the ways they perpetuate anti-Black colorism, both historically and moment to moment. While it is easy to cause harm unknowingly, recognizing and getting curious about one’s role can be difficult when the default is to protect the ego. This is where loving accountability for one’s self can be a disruptor that opens dialogue. In this companion podcast episode for Racial Justice at Work: Practical Solutions for Systemic Change (Berrett-Koehler Publishers, 2023), lead author Mary-Frances Winters and special projects editor Gabrielle Gayagoy Gonzalez sit down with Rochelle Younan-Montgomery, Instructional Designer at The Winters Group, Inc., to discuss her chapter, “Accountability through Restorative Dialogue.” Listen in as they explore how leaning in with curiosity and a sense of humility can pave the way for telling the truth and centering those most harmed by racial injustice.  Want to be a part of the conversation?
