Dr. Gauri D Chakraborty graduated from Asia’s premier institution, Film and Television Institute of India, Pune and has been a part of the Audio-Video Industry since 1995. She has worked with prestigious institutions like BBC World Service Trust in India on HIV awareness. Gauri was the Associate Producer for the award winning film ‘Sheep Thief’, (1997). Dr Gauri Chakraborty is a practicing filmmaker, academician and artist.
At present, Gauri heads the Amity School of Communication in Noida, India, which is one of the largest media training hubs in the country. She has been a media educator for the last 15 years and her core research interests are Feminist film theory, spectatorship studies and female auteurs. She believes in creating intersecting spaces, which overlap research with reception and therefore was chosen as the Festival Director for the 15th edition of the IAWRT Asian Women's Film Festival 2019. She is also a peer reviewer for specific journals focused on gender studies. She is currently exploring concepts of De-gendering and Femvertising in her research.
In 2016, Gauri founded the social movement Vansh Vyom which relooks at traditional arts from the point of view of matriarchal inheritance.
