"You would have burnt me at the stake decades ago for being able to do what I do."
Michelle Mills-Porter has been reading people her whole life. As a child she was told she was oversensitive. In the Royal Air Force she read palms for pints. As an award-winning marketing CEO she built rapport with senior executives over the phone in seconds. Yet for years she wrapped that gift in safe, careful, professional language, because she had no degree to back it up.
In this episode, Michelle traces how that changed. From surviving the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami, to coming home to a boardroom full of awards and realising she had built it all to prove other people wrong. She shares what it cost her to keep working against what truly drove her. Through to the creation of The People Reader, and the first versions of her people profiling tools, which still played it safe, wrapped in careful, professional language.
She describes the moment she stopped hedging and rebuilt her life's work into 200 archetypes that tell people plainly: this is who you are.
What surprised me most was how she described that shift. I expected a story about courage. She said it felt like opening the door to a secret garden. Which creates the question, what might be sitting behind the door to your secret garden?

Manshi Low is an MIT engineer with an MBA who spent fifteen years building large-scale infrastructure across the US, Europe, and the Middle East. Every box ticked — the prestige, the salary, the title, the path running clean to retirement. Then she moved to Europe, became a mother, and the linear path began to dissolve. Not through failure. Through a growing sense that achievement alone was no longer pointing anywhere.
What she'd kept in the background the whole time was a way of sensing what's really happening in a room — why some technical teams thrive under pressure while others quietly drift. She had no language for it, so she treated it as not real. Idealistic. Naive. Not the kind of thing you say at a networking event.
She started building at 42, from a vision she describes as blurry.
In this conversation, Manshi rejects the standard advice outright — not fake it till you make it, not seize the day. For her, movement came after safety: the safety of knowing that if she took a step, she wouldn't break into a million pieces. And she names what the hiding actually cost, because keeping the vision behind bars meant keeping her gifts there too.
We talk about:
If you've been calling it burnout, or a bad season, or needing a holiday — this conversation offers a different frame. The exhaustion may not be the problem. The hiding might be.
The question Manshi landed on, after all of it: Can I trust myself with my vision?

[00:00:00] Hello, and welcome to this very first episode of this podcast. I am Angela. I'm a strategist, coach, a guide for founders and creatives building meaningful businesses from inside out. Whether it is solo reflections or deep conversations about the business journey in growth or soulful evolution, we're going to be exploring what all that really means to own your voice, your value, your vision in work and in life.
So let's dive in. Now, today, this is the first, um, the first day that I've really, I would say claimed the name for this episode fully claimed it under my own, brand of Angela Tsai and. I wanted to say that I had faced a lot of conflict when I was trying to come up with a name.
And, you know, over the years I've created multiple different brands, multiple different blogs, multiple different Instagrams, nothing really under my own name. And I guess there was always a part of me that's like, well, it has to be useful to people, but it meant [00:01:00] that because, well under human design, I'm actually a manifesting generator and I have like tons and tons of different things all going at once.
That it started to become quickly very fragmented because every one of these brands require its own, support system and strategy and foundation and all kinds of things in, in terms of bringing that to life and driving that consistently forward. And it was almost like I was kind of not confronting the fact that the, the central.
Thing that was pulling that all together was essentially me. So today I wanted to speak about this topic of fragmentation,
And in this episode, which is essentially all about what is it that you bring to the table? And I wanted to address this topic around fragmentation that we experience throughout our careers, throughout our business journey, throughout our lives, especially when we start to feel that our identity is being pulled in multiple different directions.

There's a particular kind of person who arrives at a moment they didn't plan for. They're competent, often more than. They’ve built something — a career, a company, a reputation — and it worked.…
The Inflection Point is for that person living that gap.
It's a conversation show.
Each episode sits with someone who reached a point where the identity they'd spent years building stopped pointing anywhere, and who chose, without a map, to follow something truer instead. The questions are always the same underneath: What was the moment? Where did it come from? And — the part almost nobody talks about — what did you actually do?
Because the leap gets romanticised and the mechanics get skipped. The show is interested in the mechanics.
Hosted by Angela Tsai — identity leadership coach and author of Awaken Your Inner Diamond — for high-competence founders and leaders navigating identity transition.
Join as we explore what it means to lead from your true self, especially in the gap when the external validation is stripped away.
