In this episode, I get raw and real about what it’s like being addicted to the opiate painkillers and sleeping pills that were prescribed to me after nearly losing my life in a motorcycle accident.
After breaking both my legs, pelvis, elbow, and rupturing my bladder and achilles, and enduring 9 surgeries, I am totally grateful for the modern medical system for saving my life as well as helping me ease the extreme pain of all this metal in my body.
But… There is a serious problem that comes with nearly 3 years on morphine, tramadol, and trazodone, and that’s addiction. I felt my mental and emotional state changed, and it deeply affected my spiritual practice.
I talk about what quitting the pharmaceuticals was like with the help of a Borneo tea leaf called Kratom, as well as how beneficial going to a silent meditation retreat was for my mental state during the massive dopamine withdrawals I felt after getting clean.
I hope this episode helps anyone struggling with the same.

In this enlightening and hilarious episode, we welcome Andrés Espinoza, an extremely talented musician, producer, DJ and shaman who draws from ancient wisdom to guide others on their spiritual journeys.
Andrés and Aren became fast friends when Aren sat at a private 2 day plant medicine retreat led by Andrés and his team of plant medicine superheroes (as Aren would put it).
After hearing Andrés’ life story, and witnessing just how open, loving, and kind he is… Aren qualified him as being the embodiment of Ayahuasca “working” and knew he needed him as a closer friend in his life.
With many years of experience in the plant medicine world, Andrés shares his unique story of how we went from being a nightclub bouncer to very randomly trying ayahuasca, to being initiated in the Amazon jungle by a group of shamans (and a giant Anaconda snake, literally) to his own personal growth and harnessing the power of connecting with nature and the sacred.
Andrés’ story is extremely inspiring for anyone wanting to know more about plant medicine, as well as overcoming their own demons and tests in life, as life will never stop testing you.
Tune in as we explore his path to self-discovery, the wild and deep experiences that shaped his life, and how you can apply these transformative insights to your own journey.
Don’t forget to let him know how you liked this episode or if you’d like to join a medicine journey with Andrés.

Bali taught me to embrace life to its fullest, and to make more time for experiences and less making room for "things".
Making room for more experiences enriched my life and allowed me freedom over these “things”.
Getting rich with life experiences has been more valuable than what we normally fancy.
I learned to value people over material things, and I became more present in every aspect of my being.
You'll never know how much a little conversation across the planet can totally change your life.
Take a risk on yourself, and leave nothing on the plate of life.
This podcast episode will help push you over the edge if you’re thinking about getting away for all the right reasons, your personal growth.
