I had the privilege to interview Miss Marisol John, Miss Dominica 2019. However, it was not the typical interview- no pageant talk. Marisol is an educator and the owner of Sol's academy, a tutoring program that caters to high school & college students. We had a fruitful conversation about her business, what it is like to be an entrepreneur, and what to beware of on your own journey.

Become the master of your emotions; control them, don't let it control you! I like to think of emotions as crayons, they add color to life and make some of our greatest moments even more beautiful. However, an elegantly painted canvas can turn into a messy scene real quick when those crayons are not wielded correctly.  As an aspiring entrepreneur, I quickly learned that I had to take control of my emotions because I often let simple situations get under my skin which then affected my ability to make sound decisions. 

Here's how I overcame that issue:

1. Recognized I need to work on my emotional intelligence 2. Paused to analyze situations before giving a reaction 3. Meditation 

Being an entrepreneur puts you in control to dictate your pay and afford the opportunity to live the life you truly want. I started working at 15 years old at a supermarket during summer break. After I graduated from college I had an internship, worked at call centre, left the call center to work at the bank, and then got fired . Whew chile.. 

Which 'E' do you want to be? Employee or Entrepreneur  - Ask yourself this as you contemplate your future.  Are you satisfied with the idea of trading your time for a fixed salary? Or does being the dictator of your own financial journey mean more to you? Those were some of the many questions that I asked myself as I contemplated my future. The initial plan for my future was to graduate from university, get a ‘good-paying’ job, and live my life ‘comfortably’. Today, I say to hell with ‘comfort’! I do not want a comfortable life; I want to be wealthy. I want to live in abundance because where there is an abundance, there is plenty to share. I cannot help someone with a problem if I am in the same situation as them. After this epiphany, that’s when I chose my ‘E’- entrepreneur.
