This week, it's Rowan! Lot's of people say they love Japan and would love to live in the country someday, but never do anything about it. Rowan took the proactive approach, first coming to Japan as an exchange student in high school, then in some programs in college, and now he's an ALT. The main lesson I learned from Rowan is ACT ON YOUR PASSIONS! Rather than just thinking about how cool things would be, why not try to do them?

This week, it's me answering a great question I received at [email protected] all about predecessors. How much should you worry about your predecessor? How much should you try to emulate what he/she did? How much time should you spend reminiscing with your students about the days when your predecessor was at your schools? All this and more are answered in this week's episode. (And in the banner of this very page lol)

This week it's me answering a question about being more Genki. Not everyone has the DNA to be genki all of the time, but there are some ways you can ensure the maximum amount of your natural genkiness comes out in your classes. Listen to find out the 2 easy steps to make this happen.

Every situation is different of course, but if you are ok on these 9 points, you should be well on your way to having a great year. Let me know how many you can check off in the comments!

James doesn't work at this particular University, but it looks cool

This week it's an interview with a former Eikaiwa Teacher, Former ALT, current video game podcast host, and Associate Professor at a University in Tokyo, James. We get into his path in Japan, his current position etc. but the main message is this. When James found that the sinking ALT conditions couldn't support his future in Japan, he did something about it. I hope this helps someone out there do the same. Being an ALT for a few years while enjoying Japan and figuring out your next life move is AWESOME. Doing it for 10 years with 5 kids and complaining about it without doing anything about it isn't quite as AWESOME.

Learn from James.
