Carey Marin is a wife, mom of four, entrepreneur and open adoption advocate.

Carey is a graduate of the University of North Texas where she received her bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. She has worked with orphanages in Bolivia and Romania, and with women and children in Ecuador, Kenya and Turkey. She received the President’s Volunteer Service Award, and founded Hearts Wide Open, an open adoption support group. She has also served with Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children in foster care.

Carey and her husband, Paul have four adopted children. She joined the Gift of Adoption Fund- Colorado Chapter Board in June of 2023, shortly after she and her family relocated to Denver from Dallas. Gift of Adoption is a national charity that provides grants of up to $15,000 to complete the adoptions of vulnerable children. Priority is placed on helping children facing what is possibly their only chance at adoption, including those at-risk of separation from siblings, entering foster care, aging-out of an orphanage, or with special needs.

Gift of Adoption is the largest provider of adoption assistance grants on a nondiscriminatory basis (without regard to age, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or marital status) and grants are paid directly to adoption agencies and attorneys working on the child’s behalf. Since inception in 1996, Gift of Adoption has awarded more than $14 million to give over 4,724 children permanent families and the chance to thrive. To date in Colorado, GOA has awarded $507,000 in grants to complete the adoptions of 155 children.

Gift of Adoption is recognized by Charity Navigator and the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance.

Wendy began with Generation Schools Network in 2010 as the Rocky Mountain Managing Director and was asked by the Board of Directors to assume the CEO role in 2012. While earning a business degree, her love for education was catalyzed through volunteering to teach a business entrepreneurship class in an economically struggling Denver neighborhood on Saturday mornings at a local church. She brings extensive experience in the non-profit and education sectors, especially in the areas of network development, school replication and innovative educational models. She has worked in higher education (Northwest College, Colorado Christian University & Harvard University) and co-founded the Street School Network, which grew to include more than 50 schools in 27 cities under her leadership. She holds a BS in Business Management from Colorado Christian University, an MA in Educational Leadership from Concordia University and is currently studying for her PhD in Education & Social Justice at Lancaster University in the United Kingdom. She has completed fellowships with both Catapult and the Billions Institute for large scale social change.

Wendy is part of a big, blended family with 6 semi-grown children ranging in ages from 21-42; four boys and two girls. She loves dogs (which is great because she has grand dogs including one she keeps full-time due to her son’s deployment). Wendy loves reading historical fiction and serves as the director of the children’s program at her church.

As a sales specialist for SketchUp in Trimble’s AEC division, I blend my interior design background with a passion for architectural technology. I help professionals navigate the industry’s leading 3D modeling software. Raised in Douglas County, I’ve always believed in the power of community. Since May 2024, volunteering has opened new doors for me, bringing fresh purpose and perspective to my life. When I’m not helping architects and designers transform their visions into reality, you’ll find me spending quality time with my husband and our dogs, who make every day brighter.

I began volunteering with Soul Dog Rescue in May 2024 with my sister-in-law Heather Taylor. The mission of Soul Dog Rescue is to perform collaborative and targeted work, primarily through spay and neuter in underserved regions. Once a month we travel to the Navajo Reservation in the Four Corners Region where we may spay and neuter over 200 dogs and cats in a weekend. We rescue surrendered and stray animals and bring them to our clinic in Fort Lupton, CO where we hope to find foster and forever homes.

Bonnie Dannels is the Founder/President of Paul’s Mystery Ship to End ALS, a nonprofit foundation. Bonnie created this foundation because her husband Paul of 45 years was diagnosed with ALS. He lost his battle after a short 13-month journey fighting this horrific disease. ALS is a fatal disease with no cure. Once diagnosed, there is no turning back. Paul and Bonnie have a large family of 3 children (2 daughters and 1 son) and 11 grandchildren. Each member of her family was deeply affected by this disease. Bonnie is blessed to have a large circle of family and friends who support her; each one of them were also deeply affected as they supported Paul throughout his stages of ALS.

Prior to Paul’s diagnosis, Bonnie had a career in management, sales, and service for independent insurance agencies. Her career was abruptly interrupted in January 2019 when Paul was diagnosed with ALS.

Bonnie is a Colorado native, born and raised in Timnath, CO. She graduated from Colorado State University and lived in Ft. Collins until her family moved to Castle Rock in 1982.

Bonnie is an avid walker & hiker. She plays pickleball and does some type of physical activity daily. Her newest activity is snowshoeing.

Bonnie is actively involved in the Castle Rock community, Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce, Womenade, Plum Creek Church, and First United Methodist Church.
