Family and friends are often confused about how to approach the addict and a professional intervention is not something everyone can afford. Kathy L., the 12-step recovery columnist for Bellaonline, one of the largest sites for women on the Web, explains the concept of intervention - the critical waking up point when the addict accepts that addiction has taken over his life. She offers stories of real people - drug addicts, alcoholics, gambling, sex, and food addicts, and the friends and family who want to help them.

Co-Dependent's Review
As a frequent reader of Kathy L's weekly 12-step recovery articles on the website, BellaOnline, ([...]), I was delighted to read more of her writings in her new book "The Intervention Book".
Although not an addict in the traditional sense, I am a codependent addicted to people. Addicts and co-dependents alike can benefit from Kathy L's book. It is an excellent account of how recovery works as well as depicting real life stories of addicts and their struggles. There are also a few real life stories of codependent recoveries. Kathy L's messages lay the groundwork for understanding how loved ones can best create an environment supportive of recovery. For codependents involved with an addict, the book is a reminder that the most loving act we can do for an addict is to work on ourselves and get out of the way of their potential recovery. Her book notes that as we blossom into our authentic selves, we are able to give consistent, healthy messages to the addict that serve as informal interventions which may contribute over time to the addict making the decision to seek recovery.
This is truly a book worth reading over and over again for the inspirational messages of hope and to deepen the understanding of addiction and recovery. Re-reading works especially well with a Kindle as you can easily retrieve and highlight meaningful information.
a message of hope and encouragement
Addictions are much more prevalent than one would like to believe and most people have at one time known of someone struggling to overcome them. Kathy L. sheds light on the complexities of this issue by interviewing a wide spectrum of individuals from many different backgrounds. Her book explores different addictions and exposes common threads linking them all. Whether you are struggling with an addiction yourself or are concerned about a loved one this book offers hope and strategies for recovery. Through the featured individuals in this book the long and often insidious journey is uncovered. Denial usually plays a significant role until someone or something inspires change. It is this very process that this book explores with an inspirational and spiritual message of hope for the addict and their families.

Great stories of the struggles inherent in addiction and codependency. I found it inspiring and informative about what kinds of interventions addicts may respond to.
