In this episode of Empress of the Valley, I dive into the history of Indian boarding schools how they begin why they were created and how the United States government played a role in shaping their impact on Native communities. This was a difficult episode for me to research a share because I, too, attended boarding school. It gave me a deeper understanding of how displacement from our ancestral homelands led to generational trauma, and how, through it all, our traditions, language and culture became the roots that kept us alive.
