As an Urban Native woman, this episode is about honoring my Navajo roots and honoring the voices of our ancestors who fought with so much courage in silence. This story deeply moved me, The Navajo code talkers, 29 Navajo men who used our sacred language to protect a country that once tried to erase it. Researching and sharing their story, reminded me why our words matter and why our history deserves to be heard.

In the next episode of Empress of the Valley, I open my heart about the quiet ache that lingered after leaving someone who once felt like home, sharing how I stumbled and found my way back.
In this episode of Empress of the Valley, I dive into the history of Indian boarding schools how they begin why they were created and how the United States government played a role in shaping their impact on Native communities. This was a difficult episode for me to research a share because I, too, attended boarding school. It gave me a deeper understanding of how displacement from our ancestral homelands led to generational trauma, and how, through it all, our traditions, language and culture became the roots that kept us alive.
please listen with an open heart, and thank you for taking the time to tune in.
