The term “Koha” is not a Japanese term, it is in fact a Māori word, it is often used to describe a gift, but it goes a lot deeper.

In part 2 of 2: Mariameno speaks of the gift of being an Uchi Deshi (live in student) and what she received form the experience, but also what she gave back in return. Hence the “Uchi Deshi Koha.”

Mariameno Kapa Kingi Sensei, sits down to talk about her journeys in the world of Budo, studying Aikido at Iwama, a place that some would describe as the cradle from which Aikido springs.

Te Ao Māori (Māori World) meets with Japanese Bujitsu, she reflects on her much respected and loved Saito Morihiro Sensei and his lovely Wife and all the many lessons that were imparted by them and indeed the culture itself!
