There has been much controversy over who is the leader in the home, but that is not what we are tackling today. How to we submit to one another in the fear of the Lord as husband and wife? I talk a lot about how I need to do better at submitting to Hannah. Then Josh talks about how he said to Audrie, early in their marriage, that he was the husband and he was in charge---🤦‍♂️. Tyler still needs to read the book I recommended. I may ask him every episode, we'll see.

You may have taken different tests to see what "type" of person you are, or why you do things the way that you do. Maybe you are able to get a general idea of why you react to certain things the way you do. Regardless, none of these are you identity. There are not many things more frustrating than someone telling you how to grieve or what grief even looks like.

Grief will touch every person on earth in some form. How we grieve is something we need to have a revelation of from scripture. We also need to know how to grieve with hope before the time comes that we experience it. Saying that grief will touch us all in some way isn't hopeless - it is something that is a part of our journey in this broken and cursed earth.

I hope that I can help guide you through scripture to help you have your own revelation of the faithfulness of God through any pain. It is the most important thing to be deeply rooted in God's Word to be prepared for anything that comes your way.

The Word says we do not grieve without hope. However, it doesn't say that we don't grieve. The point of this is not to avoid pain, but to feel it well. It is important to maintain an eternal perspective when we are going through grieving the loss of a loved one. In everything, we need to stay grounded in the Word. Staying connected to Jesus through grief will not dismiss negative emotions, but it will help you go through them well, with Hope. Something that helped me is actually looking at what the Bible says about death. It's weird to say it but knowing the theology actually helped guide me through grieving. It set up a safe framework to guide me to the other side of it instead of getting lost in grief. My desire is that you are encouraged, even in grief. We have kind of a slow start here, but only because we wanted to be sure to gently come into this topic, as it is fresh for a lot of people right now.

We either overthink reading the Bible or we don't really think about it at all. Neither is good to start a habit of reading the Bible, right? My friends and I talk about, well--a lot of different things, but we had a great conversation about reading the Bible. There's a lot of different opinions about how to read the Bible, but it's mainly a story. A lot of people go find something in the Bible to address the topic they want or need to learn about, which isn't wrong but if that's the only way we try to read or use the Bible, we will miss out on the big story being told in the scriptures.

As I got older I realized that all the people in the Bible stories we heard as kids weren't meant to be models for us but mirrors! We only get bits and pieces of the stories as children and so we miss out on the full purpose of the stories. We learned about David and Goliath, but the adults are definitely uncomfortable saying that David cut off Goliath's head, too. We don't see that part in the children's cartoons, do we? 

Reading the Bible in its entirety is crucial even if it's kind of boring at times. I'm sorry, was that too honest? Yes, sometimes there are parts of the Bible that can put you to sleep, but if you keep reading you'll find some weird stuff, interesting stuff, and even things that minister to you. It's a story to lead you to Jesus because it's all about Him.

The past is the past, but it's not irrelevant! Your past might be cheesy, especially if you grew up in the 90s, but it is still important! It is good to look back and ask yourself why you do what you do. What shaped how you make decisions?

Tyler tells a story of how he got in trouble with me when I was his basketball coach and you will never guess what Tyler did to get in trouble. 🤔 I also may have handled it a little dramatically. Then Josh tells the tale of the time he got a C on a school paper, which is surprising but how his parents responded was important! These stories and more are told to go into a deeper understanding of Grace! We think we can do so much on our own until we realize in certain moments just how much grace we really need, and it's always more than we think.
