LESLIE BRADFORD-SCOTT – ON OVERCOMING CHALLENGES, SURVIVING & MOVING FORWARDLeslie Bradford-Scott is a female entrepreneur that has the right ingredients to create a skincare empire. She went from being a broke single mom to becoming a co-founder of Walton Wood Farm. Her journey has not been an easy one. It is an incredible story that is filled with twists and turns that are almost unbelievable. This is the tale of a woman who barely had $20 in her pocket and now she is running a company with revenues that are over a million dollars in sales. She has worked for the coast guard, has been a used car salesperson, written not one, but two award-winning screenplays, and also found love along her journey.Leslie and her husband Peter are currently co-founders of Walton Wood Farm, which is a farm-forward operation, that supplements cash crops by creating products that are not traditional agricultural offshoots. The Scott’s are passionate about preserving Ontario’s rural landscape by saving barns and revitalizing farming. Walton Wood Farm produces a line of unique skin care products, where the profits go into their preservation initiatives – save the barn, shop the farm. Leslie started out by putting bath salts in a vintage milk bottle and mixed it with creative packaging that would get people laughing. Week From Hell, Break Up Bath Revenge, Fix Anything Bath, these are all everyday life situations that people can relate to and understand. The line has since expanded from bath salts, to hand rescue creams, men’s cologne and the list goes on. Walton Wood products are in over 750 stores and Leslie has been featured on Dragons Den where she was asking for 50K for 5% of her company. This is a woman that has demonstrated great survival instincts and the sheer willpower to not let life get her down. She is all about overcoming challenges, learning, and moving forward. Leslie is an amazing storyteller that captivates your attention and makes you want to know what is going to happen next! I am not sure that failure is really in her vocabulary. In this episode, Leslie and I discuss:* Leslie’s journey from being a broke single mom to starting over, finding a trusting partner and co-founding Walton Wood Farm* The importance of knowing when it is time to move on, setting a date to make the change and moving forward* What to do when you have no marketable skills* How to become an award-winning screenwriter using post-it notes* The challenges of working in a male-dominated industry and toxic environment* Overcoming the challenges of having a learning disability and continuing to learn new skills* Taking a break to rediscover who you are, and what you are passionate about* The importance of understanding risk and identifying the worst-case scenario* Determining how your business or product fits in the marketplace* The importance of emotionally connecting with your customers* Identifying how you know you are in the right place* The importance of knowing what type of work you should be doing and getting help by experts at the right time* Accepting failure and making sure you do not outfly your abilities* Where you can find your best ideas* And much more.I really enjoyed this conversation with Leslie and I hope you do too!If you would like more information on Leslie you can visit:• Website – http://waltonwoodfarm.com• Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/waltonwoodfarm/• Twitter – https://twitter.com/waltonwoodfarmListen to it on Spotify,
