On August 3, 2014, U.S. Army Green Beret Girard “Jerry” Gass Jr., died of a massive heart attack while on a combat operation in Afghanistan. Jerry was assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C. and was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Jerry was on his second deployment to Afghanistan when he tragically lost his life.
