Jesus — Stay Focused on the Mission

It’s easy to lose focus—even as believers. Disagreements, frustrations, changing circumstances, and everyday distractions can pull our attention away from what matters most.

But the mission Jesus gave His followers has not changed.

In this episode of Jesus in Your Weekend, we look at Matthew 28:18–20 and what it means to keep Jesus at the center, stand firmly on God’s Word while speaking truth in love, love one another, and remain faithful to the mission Christ has given us.

The world may change. Circumstances may change. People may disagree. But our calling remains: follow Jesus, love people, share the Gospel, make disciples, and point others toward Him.

Don’t let the distraction become the mission. Listen today and ask yourself: 

Am I still focused on the mission Jesus gave us?

Summer Reflections — Episode 10: Series Finale
Jesus: The Faithfulness of God Lamentations 3:22–23

Summer is coming to an end, but there is one thing that never changes: the faithfulness of God.

In this final episode of Summer Reflections, Steve McLane looks at the powerful words of Lamentations:

“They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” — Lamentations 3:23

God’s faithfulness isn’t determined by whether life is easy, prayers are answered the way we hoped, or everything makes sense. Faithfulness is part of who He is.

As one season gives way to another, this episode invites us to look back and remember where God has provided, strengthened, comforted, guided, and carried us—and then step into what comes next trusting the One who never changes.

Throughout this summer journey, we’ve learned to know Jesus, trust Him, walk with Him, wait on Him, and rest in Him.

And now, as the series comes to a close:

Wait on Him. Rest in Him. Remember His faithfulness.

Because the God who was faithful in the season behind you will be faithful in the season ahead.

Summer ends. His faithfulness doesn’t.

September 11 — We Remember. We Pray. We Hope.

Twenty-five years ago, on September 11, 2001, our nation experienced a day we will never forget.

In this special reflective edition of Jesus in Your Weekend, we pause to remember the lives lost, honor the courage of first responders and ordinary people who stepped forward to help, and pray for the families who still carry the loss today.

Psalm 46:1 reminds us:

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

Twenty-five years later, that truth has not changed.

In a world where life can change in an instant, our ultimate hope is not found in circumstances or our ability to control tomorrow. Our hope is found in Jesus Christ.

Because Jesus lives, death does not have the final word. Fear does not have the final word. Tragedy does not have the final word.

Jesus does.

This weekend, take a moment to remember, pray, and hope.

Summer Reflections — Episode 9 - Jesus: The Gift of Rest 

Matthew 11:28–30

Have you ever been physically rested but still felt tired deep down inside?

Some weariness reaches beyond the body. Worry, fear, grief, uncertainty, unanswered questions, and the burdens we carry for those we love can leave our souls weary.

In this episode of The Jesus Effect: Summer Reflections, Steve McLane looks at one of the most comforting invitations Jesus ever gave:

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

Jesus doesn’t tell the weary to try harder or figure everything out. He invites us to come to Him.

The rest Jesus offers doesn’t mean every burden suddenly disappears. It means we no longer have to carry life apart from Him.

If you’ve been carrying something for too long, this episode is an invitation to bring it to Jesus and discover the rest only He can give.

What are you carrying today?

Come tired.
Come worried.
Come with your questions.
Come as you are.

Jesus is still saying:

“Come to Me.”

The Jesus Effect — Jesus in Your Weekend
Are You Ready?  Living in Light of Christ’s Return

When you look at everything happening around our world—devastating floods, wildfires, earthquakes, wars, unrest, and tremendous suffering—it can leave us wondering:

What is going on?

And for followers of Jesus, another question may come to mind:

Could Jesus be coming soon?

We don’t know when. Jesus made it clear that no one knows the day or the hour.

But we do know this:

Jesus is coming again.

In this week’s Jesus in Your Weekend, we turn to Matthew 24 and 1 Thessalonians 4 to consider how Christians should respond when the world around us feels increasingly uncertain.

Jesus told His followers:

“See that you are not troubled.”

His return isn’t meant to leave believers paralyzed by fear. Scripture calls it our “blessed hope.”

So rather than trying to connect every headline to a prophetic timeline, perhaps we should ask a more important question:

Am I ready?

And are we using the time God has given us to love people, forgive, pray, serve, and tell others about Jesus?

As you head into your weekend, remember:

Don’t live scared. Live ready. Live faithful. Live hopeful.

We may not know when He is coming…

but we absolutely know Who is coming.

Jesus Christ—the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Jesus: Learning to Wait on God Isaiah 40:31

What do you do when you’ve prayed, trusted, and still find yourself waiting?

Waiting for an answer.
Waiting for direction.
Waiting for a door to open.
Waiting for circumstances to change.

In Summer Reflections — Episode 8, Steve McLane looks at Isaiah 40:31 and the promise God gives to weary people: those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.

Waiting on God doesn’t always mean receiving the answer we want on our timetable. Sometimes we’re waiting for God to change our circumstances while God is using the waiting to change us.

We’ll reflect on what it means to trust God when we don’t understand His timing, why waiting doesn’t mean God has stopped working, and how waiting on the Lord is not passive—it’s active trust.

And perhaps instead of only asking, “Lord, when will this change?” we can also ask:

“Lord, how do You want to change me while I wait?”

Waiting on God is not wasted time when we’re walking with Jesus.

What does it really mean to say, “Here I am, Lord. Send me”?

In Isaiah 6, Isaiah’s response didn’t come out of nowhere. First, he encountered the holiness of God. He recognized his own sin, experienced God’s cleansing, heard God’s call—and then responded:

“Here am I! Send me.” — Isaiah 6:8

In this episode of Jesus in Your Weekend, we reflect on what it means to have a heart that is truly available to God.

Sometimes God isn’t asking us to have everything figured out. He’s asking whether we’re willing to trust Him and be obedient when He calls.

And your “Here I am” may be closer than you think. It could be encouraging someone, serving where there’s a need, praying with someone, sharing your faith, making a phone call, or simply responding to an opportunity God places in front of you.

Obedience doesn’t always require knowing the entire plan. Sometimes it simply requires trusting the One who does.

As you head into your weekend, ask yourself:

If God called my name today, would my answer be, “Here I am. Send me”?

Jesus: Not a Way — The Only Way

We live in a world filled with choices, opinions, philosophies, and beliefs. When it comes to God, we often hear that there are many different roads that eventually lead to the same place.

But Jesus said something very different:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” — John 14:6

In Episode 7 of our Summer Reflections series, we reflect on one of the clearest and most important statements Jesus ever made.

Jesus didn’t say He was a way. He said He is the Way.

But this isn’t a message of exclusion—it’s an invitation. Jesus came to make a way for sinners to be reconciled to God, and that invitation is open to everyone who will come to Him in repentance and faith.

We’ll talk about why the cross was necessary, why knowing about Jesus isn’t the same as knowing Him, and why our response to Jesus is the most important decision we will ever make.

There is one Savior.
One Gospel.
One empty tomb.
And one Way to the Father.

Jesus Christ.

Jesus in Your Weekend - Walk in Step with the Spirit

Who—or what—is directing your steps each day?

The Christian life was never meant to be lived in our own strength. God has given us the Holy Spirit to guide us, strengthen us, convict us, and help us become more like Jesus.

In this episode of Jesus in Your Weekend, we turn to Galatians 5:16 and 25 and explore what it means to walk by the Spirit and keep in step with the Spirit in the ordinary moments of everyday life.

When our natural reaction says, “Get even,” the Spirit says, “Forgive.”

When pride says, “Make sure they know you were right,” the Spirit says, “Be humble.”

When fear says, “Stay where it’s comfortable,” the Spirit may be saying, “Trust Me and take the next step.”

Walking with the Spirit doesn’t mean we’ll never stumble. It means we keep turning back to Jesus—listening, trusting, and following Him one faithful step at a time.

As you head into the weekend, consider this simple prayer:

“Holy Spirit, guide my steps today.”

Listen for His leading.
Trust His direction.
And when He shows you the next step—take it.

Summer Reflections - Episode 6: Jesus the Greatest News Ever Told 

John 20:30–31

The Gospel isn’t good advice—it’s Good News about Jesus.

We hear the word Gospel often, but have we stopped to consider what it really means?

The Gospel tells us who Jesus is, why He came, what He did, why it matters, and how we can respond to Him.

Jesus Christ is more than a great teacher or a good man. He is the Son of God—the promised Messiah and Savior of the world.

He came to seek and save the lost.
He willingly gave His life on the cross for our sins.
He rose from the grave.
And because He lives, everyone who places their faith in Him can receive forgiveness, new life, and eternal hope.

But the Gospel isn’t only important on the day we come to Christ. It changes how we live every day.

Because of Jesus, we have hope when life is difficult, peace when life is uncertain, forgiveness when we fail, purpose for today, and the promise of eternity with Him.

Maybe you’ve heard about Jesus your entire life.

But have you trusted Him?

The Gospel isn’t simply information to believe—it’s an invitation to receive.
