A lot of hard work goes into building a business. Especially on the front end. Now, imagine for a minute that you’re in a place where you can sell that business for one big payday?

How sweet would that be? You could even roll some of that money into another venture – only this time, you wouldn’t be starting at ground zero.

One of my current clients has done this 4 times. After each sale, he goes into semi-retirement. He invests some of the money, lives debt-free, and then does it again (about every five years).

The secret is, he knows what buyers and investors are looking for. These are people who’d rather buy an established business than start from scratch. He builds with those things in mind.

Two of the biggest challenges many digital entrepreneurs will face this year will revolve around time and money. How much money do you really need? How much time does it really take? I’m talking about building a real business and doing it right.

I realize, of course, there aren’t any “default answers” that we can throw out there to address unique challenges. Everyone’s situation is different.

Perhaps the better questions would be, “How much money will YOU need? And, “How much time should YOU invest and where should YOU invest it this year?” What’s paying off right now and what isn’t?

This is a great time to build momentum going into the New Year. It starts by looking at all the pieces you currently have to work with.

For me, 2020 is all about guiding a business that's faster, leaner and not getting bogged down micromanage anything. Sometimes good enough is good enough when you’re starting something new. You can always course-correct as you’re moving forward.

If you’re still in the planning stages, that’s ok. The point is, recognize when you’re getting caught in the weeds. Sometimes, an imperfect solution is better than no solution at all. A new decade has arrived. Let’s do our best to make it better than the last.

How should you plan for the future? I believe it all starts by recognizing exactly what it is we have in the present. The tools and infrastructure are already in place to take you wherever you want to go in the business world of 2020.

I guess the only question is, “Where do you believe you should go from here?”

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you! As we look back on 2019, we can celebrate the victories and learn from the missteps. Due to the busy time of the year, I made today’s podcast a little shorter than usual. Today, I wanted to share a few ideas on how to possibly do some things better in the upcoming year.

In today’s podcast, I want to talk about money. Just about every business owner knows what it’s like to face financial challenges. It’s almost a given and there are very few exceptions. That said, money problems (like other problems) can be worked through and solved. You just have to be ready and willing to make some changes.

If your business is not generating enough income, don’t take as an indicator of your personal value or self-worth. Instead, simply realize that you’ll need to employ a different approach and strategy. Take your emotions out of the equation entirely.

Be willing to think and plan differently than you have in the past. Remember, when it comes to business – wisdom, and strategy will have a much greater impact on the final result than just about anything else.

Many entrepreneurs bring multiple interests and talents to the table which makes things like “finding a niche,” extra challenging. In my own life, I’ve wrestled with pulling various interests and skill sets together to find a common thread.

My initial focus was wide instead of deep. This slowed my progress a bit until I finally discovered the common thread that tied all my interests together. At that point, all of the seemingly disconnected puzzle pieces finally fit together

That ultimately became the business I enjoy today. I combined a variety of interests to build the kind of digital business that energizes me more often than not.

As an Online Business Owner, you have your own experiences with what works and what doesn’t.

I’m talking about things like the various social platforms, your personal take on design, what you really think about email marketing, video marketing, blogging, paid ads, SEO and so on.

Some of those things worked well for you, but they won’t work well for your client. And vise versa. Some things that weren’t a good fit for you will be a great fit for your client.
