In this episode of The Job That Built Me, we sit down with Firefighter Casey Fury from Roanoke City, Virginia. A multi-generational fireman, Casey grew up in his dad’s firehouse in New Jersey and started in the fire service as a junior member at just 14 years old. Now, with nearly seven years on the job in Roanoke, he works as a paramedic, splitting his time between the engine and medic unit. His passion lies in engine work and technical rescue, and he’s committed to upholding the oath of the job while making those around him better.
We talk about his journey from the New Jersey fire service to Roanoke, the differences between fire tactics in each region, and what it takes to be part of an aggressive and skilled department. Casey also shares his experiences with Virginia’s Rescue Challenge, leadership in the fire service, and the biggest role he’s preparing for yet—fatherhood.
