Tonight, Joe welcomes Matthew Wingo, founder and president of Turn Right Ministry and author of Turn Right: The Pursuit of Noble Things, for an honest conversation about Christian testimony, personal failure, repentance, recovery, and the transforming grace of God. Matthew shares his early rebellion, his conversion at 17, and the struggles that followed as unresolved wounds began taking root in what he calls “the hidden orchard”—the private place where the seeds we nurture eventually produce a harvest.

Together, Joe and Matthew discuss marriage, broken relationships, the pressure men feel to hide their struggles, the danger of isolation, and the importance of accountability. Matthew also describes how a Christ-centered 12-step recovery journey helped him confront deeper issues and discover that healing requires more than simply changing outward behavior.

This is a conversation about bringing darkness into the light, confronting painful truths, and finding hope through Jesus Christ—even when life seems to have fallen apart.

In this Sunday Bible Study, we walk through Daniel 4 and Nebuchadnezzar's hard lesson in humility as God uses the king's dream, his fall and eventual restoration to demonstrate that “the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men.”

We look at both the prophetic and practical sides of the chapter: God's authority is everlasting, pride brings abasement, and human wisdom can never replace dependence on the Lord. Nebuchadnezzar's experience also becomes a warning about self-exaltation, misplaced confidence and trying to live as though we are ultimately in control.

Sometimes God allows us to spend time in the pasture before we reach the palace, and Daniel 4 leaves us with a simple but weighty lesson: seek God's wisdom, learn what adversity is trying to teach us, and above all, let God be God.

On this week’s Wednesdays with Wayne, Wayne and I covered what practical preparedness looks like when it’s lived out as a full calendar year—not just talked about in theory. Wayne walked me through his seasonal rhythm of steelhead, salmon, halibut, elk, deer, crabbing, gardening, beekeeping, canning, smoking fish and building out the farm one project at a time.

We also got into the real economics behind that lifestyle: how much food can be harvested, preserved, traded or gifted, and why skills, self-reliance and community still matter. From salmon in the smoker to honey in the kitchen to elk in the freezer, it's about making the most of what you have and what you can produce.

We also talked about my own 1/16-acre farm progress—basil, peppers, tomatoes, garlic, seedlings and future fig trees—and Wayne shared practical advice on protecting young plants from heavy rain, collecting water and planning for bigger systems like greenhouse ventilation and food storage. Along the way, we reflected on gratitude, bartering, generosity, hard seasons and the kind of life built through useful knowledge, good friends and steady effort.

This one was equal parts preparedness, homesteading, hunting, encouragement and, as always, plenty of laughter.

 In Daniel chapter 3, Nebuchadnezzar commands the people of Babylon to bow before his golden image—but Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refuse, even when obedience to God means facing the fiery furnace.

In Part 6 of our study through Daniel, we examine the idolatry and prophetic imagery surrounding Nebuchadnezzar's decree, the courage of three men who would not bow, and the appearance of the fourth man in the fire.

But this chapter also teaches a powerful lesson for the Christian life: God does not promise to keep us from every fire, but He does promise that we will not face those fires alone. Sometimes the very thing meant to destroy us burns away the bonds that were holding us.

We also consider the often-asked question of where Daniel was during these events, why every believer has weaknesses, and why the answer to past failure isn't remaining a spectator—it's getting back in the game.
