The John DeBella Show

There's a new documentary series on EPIX called "My Life As A Rolling Stone," which tells the story of one of the world’s greatest rock ‘n’ roll bands in a way that has never been done before—by examining the band through the musical lens of each member, delving deep into their personalities, passions, and memories from the past 60 years. Four hour-long films, each an intimate portrait of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Charlie Watts, show how these individual musical geniuses came together to make the music that has provided the soundtrack to the lives of millions. The series features new interviews with the band members and a stellar cast of artists who’ve been inspired by the band. It also includes unseen footage and exclusive stories from Mick, Keith, and Ronnie, interwoven with new and archive interviews and performance. The story of Charlie Watts, who sadly passed away in August 2021, will be told via tributes from his fellow band members, musical peers, and admirers, along with archive interviews of Charlie.

This morning we had the chance to talk with the director, Oliver Murray, and heap praises on him because it really is uniquely and expertly done. He talked about his vision for the documentary, and what it was like to have access to not only the Rolling Stones themselves, but their incredible vault of archives that really make this series shine!

Philly-native Chuck Nice was back on the show, this time without Neil deGrasse Tyson, and we talked about a range of crazy topics, including... being crazy in and of itself! We also picked his brain on time travel, which somehow led to a conversation about Chuck's desire to do just enough psychedelics to learn how to dance like a hippie. He's at Soul Joel's this weekend, enjoy!

Guitarist James Young ("JY") from Styx was finally back on the show today! It had been awhile since we talked, and he used to be quite the regular - even making football picks weekly for several years! They are co-headlining our Big Gig this Saturday night, along with REO Speedwagon (who he told us used to be their big rival band back in the day). JY talked their long hiatus thanks to COVID, why John likely won't be hanging out backstage with him, and his candid feelings about the song Mr. Roboto - which they've actually added back on their set list! Have a listen...

Brian Scolaro joined us for the first time ever today. You may know him from numerous small acting gigs; the guy is bound to have been in some tv show you watch (although he's sick of playing fat cowardly characters and cops, as we found out today) but he's also a comedian and happens to be shooting a comedy special at Helium Comedy Club this weekend. Check him out!
