Fox Nation host Lara Logan compared Anthony Fauci, the top official handling the United States coronavirus response, to Josef Mengele, the Nazi doctor who conducted experiments on inmates at the Auschwitz death camp.

Logan was speaking on “Fox News Primetime” on Monday about the prospect of new restrictive measures in the wake of the international concern over a new coronavirus variant, dubbed Omicron.

“This is what people say to me, that he doesn’t represent science to them,” Logan said of Fauci, US President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser, who has become a lightning rod for conservative ire because he has favored restrictions to contain the virus. “He represents Joseph Mengele, the Nazi doctor who did experiments on Jews during the Second World War and in the concentration camps. And I am talking about people all across the world saying this.”

The Auschwitz memorial museum called the comparison “shameful” in a statement on Tuesday.

So what does a 7-year-old initiative have to do with allegedly coordinated retail thefts in the Bay Area? The right is using it as a smokescreen for a power grab, one that seeks to regress California to a Reagan-era police state. The first step is to take people’s rational fears about public safety and inflame them beyond reason.

Representative Lauren Boebert made an overture to Representative Ilhan Omar after suggesting that the Muslim lawmaker was a terrorism threat. The call did not go well.

Ms. Boebert, a freshman who has built her brief political career on incendiary comments and right-wing provocations, angered Democrats over the Thanksgiving break when a video surfaced of her suggesting that Ms. Omar, a Muslim who wears a hijab, could be a suicide bomber, and bragging to constituents about confronting Ms. Omar on an elevator with an Islamophobic epithet.

“Instead of apologizing for her Islamophobic comments and fabricated lies, Representative Boebert refused to publicly acknowledge her hurtful and dangerous comments,” Ms. Omar said in a statement after the brief call. “She instead doubled down on her rhetoric, and I decided to end the unproductive call.”

The White House is reviewing options to deter a feared Russian invasion of Ukraine, including providing more military aid to Kyiv and threatening sanctions, to dissuade Russian President Vladimir Putin from escalating the simmering conflict into a full-blown transatlantic crisis.

President Biden on Monday said he will unveil his plan Thursday to tackle the new omicron variant of COVID-19, saying the strategy will not include more lockdowns. Instead, Biden plans to rely on vaccinations to combat the latest version of the virus to pose a serious threat.

According to polls showing President Joe Biden’s approval rating falling everyday — 57% of Americans disapprove of the job he is doing — Americans are answering our question the same way they answered Reagan’s, with a resounding “NO!”

Biden came into office having made dozens of bold promises. He vowed to eliminate the COVID-19 pandemic, a pledge he has failed to keep even with government “mandates” requiring employers to fire employees who refuse to be “vaccinated” with a government medicine.

Ironically, Biden promised to improve our economy, despite the fact it was already functioning at record levels when he came to office. Instead, his socialist programs, “Green New Deal” attacks on traditional energy and paying Americans to stay home rather than work, have created shortages of workers, essential goods, a supply chain debacle and massive inflation driving many small businesses to close.

Three men were convicted of murder Wednesday in the killing of Ahmaud Arbery, the Black man who was running through a neighborhood in a Georgia city when the white strangers chased him, trapped him on a quiet street and blasted him with a shotgun.

The jury deliberated for about 10 hours before convicting Greg McMichael, son Travis McMichael and neighbor William "Roddie" Bryan. The men all face a mandatory sentence of life in prison. The judge will decide whether their sentences are served with or without the possibility of parole.

The February 2020 slaying drew limited attention at first. But when video of the shooting leaked online, Arbery's death quickly became another example in the U.S.'s reckoning over racial injustice and the way Black people are treated in their everyday lives.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson's special on the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol was the last straw for two network commentators. Stephen Hayes and Jonah Goldberg have resigned.

In separate interviews with NPR, Stephen Hayes and Jonah Goldberg pointed to a breaking point this month: network star Tucker Carlson's three-part series on the Jan. 6 siege of the U.S. Capitol, which relied on fabrications and conspiracy theories to exonerate the Trump supporters who participated in the attack.

Trump has maintained publicly that he believed and still believes that Pence had the power to refuse to recognize the electoral votes submitted by state officials and could have refused to do so, potentially throwing the presidential election into the House of Representatives to be decided. 

The in-court discussion of Trump’s potential criminal culpability in the Capitol riot raised a nagging and uncomfortable question for the Justice Department: whether it is making a serious effort to investigate whether the former president committed any crimes in connection with the events of Jan. 6.

Bay Area retail workers are voicing their concerns after this past weekend's string of brazen robberies. Nearly 12 stores were hit at the same time on Friday night in Union Square, and now the aftermath is not only physical, but mental for retail store workers. "It's a heightened security. We want to keep all of our patrons and our staff safe. There are things we have to do now that we really didn't want to," said Marc Capalpo, VP Operations for Gump's. We went to see first-hand, the environment retail workers are stepping into on a regular Tuesday. Storefronts are boarded up, private security workers guard the entrance of many stores.

Many luxury brands are locking their doors. Once a worker or security guards sees you, then you're allowed inside. "We are doing what we can at our storefront to make sure that we know who is coming into our store," said Capalpo.
