🔥🎸 “Frankenstein, my wife, and we’re good.” Wolfgang Van Halen revealed that during the devastating LA wildfires, he kept his father Eddie Van Halen’s most legendary guitar — the iconic Frankenstein — in the backseat of his car for three weeks, ready to roll if evacuation orders came down.

The Mammoth WVH frontman told Premier Guitar that protecting the priceless piece of rock history became his top priority while chaos unfolded around Los Angeles. Entire neighborhoods were threatened, musicians scrambled to save gear, and for Wolfgang, the stakes couldn’t have been higher — 5150 Studios and his dad’s irreplaceable legacy were in the fire’s path.

⚡ “I thought, I’ll have Frankenstein and my wife, and we’re good,” Wolfgang shared. “We had a U-Haul packed with everything else we felt was worth saving. Luckily, it didn’t come to that — but it was a traumatizing time we’re still working through.”

That experience directly fueled the anxious, apocalyptic energy behind Mammoth WVH’s new album The End, dropping October 24. Wolf says this record finds him stepping out with a rawer, unfiltered guitar vibe:

👉 “On the first album I was really reserved. Now, I’m worrying less about what people think. The rough edges are there, and that’s how I wanted it — like you’re in the studio with me.”

🔥 On this episode of Talking Guitars we’ve got a packed show! First up — I let you know I’ll be heading out to see the legendary Andy Summers at the Presidio Theatre in San Francisco this Saturday night. That means no Saturday Night Show this week… but don’t worry, I’ll be filming B-roll all day and might even go LIVE from the city. 🎥⚡

🎸 Speaking of B-roll, I take you inside Guitar Showcase with a full walk-through of the shop — guitars everywhere, cool gear, and a hands-on demo of the brand-new BOSS Plugout FX-PX-1 pedal. Interesting little unit, but kind of tricky to navigate!

📸 We also check out some awesome guitar photos sent in by Guitar Bob — this guy has some seriously cool axes!

🛠️ Then it’s over to the workbenches: Ron tears apart Alex Radford’s Jackson Kelly, swapping in Seymour Duncan pickups, dropping in an EVH bridge, and even adding some wild green splatter to the finish. Meanwhile, I’m swapping out a loaded pickguard on a Fender Squier Stratocaster with a Tele neck (big thanks to Bay Area Rich!).

🌈 And to wrap it all up, I experiment with some trippy studio lighting effects — things got a little psychedelic in here!
