On this jam-packed episode of Talking Guitars and Music News, we kicked things off with the world premiere of my brand-new demo/review for the Lock-It Guitar Strap—fresh from a local music shop right here in Santa Cruz. I put it through its paces, even testing it out on a killer Hondo Revival Explorer I spotted at the shop. That guitar had some serious vibes… and yes, I might be going back for it!

Then Ron jumped in, and we got into the latest buzz—Jack Osbourne’s public response to Roger Waters’ comments about his father, the legendary Ozzy Osbourne. Always some rock ‘n’ roll fireworks happening!

From there, we dove headfirst into the world of pedals—starting with the new MXR RR104 Randy Rhoads Special Edition Concorde Distortion+ Pedal. Some folks are already calling it “limited edition,” but is it really? We broke it down, compared it to the previous polka-dot release, and talked about why some sellers hype these up way too much. I’m especially stoked because I’ll soon have the chance to A/B the new Concorde edition against my polka-dot and classic yellow versions.

But it didn’t stop there… we also checked out the Eventide Blackhole Reverb, a wild pedal that looks like it could open up entire universes of sound. Then the chat dropped another bomb—Source Audio’s ARTIFAKT Lo-Fi Elements. This thing is a dream machine for hazy, glitchy, tape-saturated tones. Think vinyl crackle, warbly modulation, dark reverbs, bit-crushing, and way more—basically a lo-fi playground in a box. I need one of these in my life, no question.

Straturday Night Live! New Intro, Amps vs. Half Stacks, Firefly Jimmy Page Tele & Old Clips! 8/30/25 by Johnny Beane

🎸🔥 On this episode of Talking Guitars and Music News, we kick things off with a brand-new show intro! It’s still a work in progress, but I want to know what YOU think. Expect the intro to evolve over the next few episodes, but tonight we gave it its big debut.

Next, I take you on a trip to one of the Bay Area’s legendary guitar shops—Guitar Showcase! I scored an amazing deal on not one, not two, but three Telecaster pickguards. Toward the end of the show, we experiment and see which guitars they might eventually land on.

From there, the conversation heats up with a deep dive into tone, pickups, and amps. Ron’s Charvel is loaded with DiMarzios, but he’s thinking of swapping them for Seymour Duncans. My take? Not every guitar needs to be identical—sometimes it’s the variety of tones that makes your collection shine, whether you’re gigging, recording, or just rocking at home.

We roll more exclusive Guitar Showcase footage—including their epic new room, the used guitar section, and my treasure hunt through their parts bin (where those pickguards came from). Huge thanks again to Guitar Showcase for the killer deal!

Then Ron gives us a personal studio tour—showing off guitars, gear, his workbench, and even a Schecter project in progress. After that, I hit my own bench and mock up a few different looks with those new pickguards.

To wrap things up, I bring out something really special—my first-ever guitar, a Fender Squier Bullet Strat. Even better, Bay Area Rich surprised me with another one in incredible condition, which we unveil on the show.
