If you’ve ever tried to catch a cab on Halloween night or during a rainy Saturday in Downtown Vancouver, you may have been left with the feeling that the city is facing a taxi shortage.  The growing demand on taxi services is facing renewed scrutiny with ride-hailing services such as Uber and Lyft expected to arrive at least a year from now.

Three months after Marrisa Shen's murder in Burnaby's Central Park, city officials have approved a plan to beef up park patrols and add cameras.

The BC Green Party is preparing to introduce its own bill that would enable ride-hailing services like Uber in the province. The move comes on the heels of the NDP government’s announcement that it won’t give the green light to such services for at least a year.

Emergency crews have gained access to part of the arena in Fernie where threee workers died Tuesday because of an ammonia leak. The city's fire chief says the west side of the Fernie Memorial Arena has been found to be safe but the ammonia levels on the east side of the rink remain dangerously high.
