The Transportation Ministry says the government has already spent 70-million dollars on the project.  The reason for the halt: the government wants an independent review of the plans for the crossing.

Lives and Homes in the Northern Caribbean have been destroyed due to Hurricane Irma. At least 10 people have died and the storm is still at category 5 in it's strength as it heads toward Florida. Reports from CBS.

Currently, over a dozen members of two BC First Nations bands are occupying two salmon farms - one on Swanson Island and another on Broughton Island (about 50 km east of Port Hardy). They say they will occupy the farms until the government revokes permits for the fish farm facilities.
