Premier Designate John Horgan and ougoing Premier Christy Clark were both in Kamloops yesterday. Horgan got a tour of the area, and was shown how the BC Wildfire Service works. Meanwhile, Christy Clark announced a $100-Million fund for people and communities affected by the fires. She says it includes an immediate $600 dollars for each evacuee who has registered with the Red Cross.

The entire population of 100 Mile House, just over 1900 people, has been ordered out because of the Gustafsen fire that is now more than 5000-hectares in size. The Mayor signed the Evacuation Order just before 9 last night. Cariboo Regional District Chair Al Richmond says evacuees are being asked to head north to Prince George and not south to Kamloops, because Kamloops right now is stressed with the evacuees it's currently dealing with.

Almost 10,000 British Columbians have been evacuated because of wildfires in the southern and central interiors. The latest are the 1900 residents of 100 Mile House, ordered to leave last night because of the 5000-hectare Gustafsen wildfire. Out of province firefghters are expected to arrive today, to help the 1000 BC firefighters already fighting more than 200 wildfires. A crew of 21 firefighters from New Brunswick is coming to B-C.

Two men from Washington State have been arrested after climbing the Lions Gate Bridge and backing up traffic for a photo-op Thursday morning. Vancouver police said motorists heading across the Lions Gate Bridge around 8:30 a.m. called 9-1-1 after seeing a man wearing a headlamp and large backpack, climbing over the railing and pulling himself up the guy-wires to about 50 to 70 feet up the bridge deck.

The transition is set for Monday July 18. Christy Clark took 22 days from return of election writs to recall house. Which was an unconscionable delay according to NDP. Horgan is now taking 19 days for transition. That's the earliest we could do it, say New Democrats.

Political staff will of course have to be re-placed. But Don Wright, incoming head of public service, could minimize house cleaning in bureaucracy by reassignments, giving career public servants a chance. The tab could be even larger if the new government moves on to house clean at the crown corporations. BC Hydro CEO...to mention one example, payout would probably be in the $1 million range.

Hot air and sunny days combined with vehicle emissions has led to Environment Canada issuing an air quality advisory for the Metro Vancouver region. When emissions interact with sunlight on hot and dry days, it can create a high amount of ground level ozone in the air which can cause problems. The advisory is expected to persist until temperatures cool, which Gordon says might not happen on Friday.

In the meantime, Environment Canada is asking those with respiratory problems to avoid outdoor exposure.
