In the wake of overdose deaths in BC continuing to spike because of opioids like fentanyl, a UBC professor says clinics like Insite should be providing users pure opioids like heroin as a way to curb the crisis. Mark Haden with the School of Population and Public Health says if medical professionals included heroin as part of a treatment program, it would prevent users from buying more potent drugs off the streets mixed with fentanyl or W-18.

Premier Christy Clark and Health Minister Terry Lake were in Ottawa for meetings with federal officials about the opioid overdose crisis.  Terry Lake ripped the federal government for not doing enough to combat the drug overdose emergency.  The Province newspaper's Michael Smyth is here with his take on the day's headlines.
