The "engaged citizen" is a core characteristic of the Jordan School District’s Portrait of a Graduate, defined as an individual who contributes meaningfully to society by staying informed, participating in public affairs, and serving others. For students in the upper elementary grade levels, this characteristic involves understanding their role within a community and seeing how their actions can positively impact those around them.

How does debate help students connect their words to being an "engaged citizen"?

While many students have access to devices, the way they use them varies wildly. Are they just clicking through digital worksheets, or are they using technology to build something new? We take a deep dive into the Jordan Innovation Lab to see how educators are closing this gap by moving students from passive consumers to active creators.

When students are analyzing, building, and producing, traditional grading can be tricky. How do you assess the process of active digital use? What are you looking for in a student's project that signals they have mastered the concept?
