This study shows that during navigation, the parietal cortex (PC) encodes upcoming egocentric actions and conveys them to the hippocampus, which initially encodes allocentric place information but gradually shifts to future goal-directed actions. Bidirectional communication between the PC and hippocampus integrates allocentric, route-centered, and egocentric reference frames to support spatial memory and navigation.

This study shows that maternal aggression in rats is driven by activation of CART-expressing neurons in the ventral premammillary nucleus (vPMv), which signal to the ventrolateral ventromedial hypothalamus (VMHvl), while inter-male aggression involves the lateral PMv (lPMv) without CART dependence. CART is identified as a critical mediator specifically for maternal aggression through the PMv–VMHvl pathway.

Risky moves. Can blocking “jumping genes” treat diseases and aging?
These studies reveals that rodents exhibit rapid learning supported by distinct higher-order signals in the auditory cortex, separating learning from performance. Additionally, mice demonstrate structured, dynamic strategies—including choice biases and environmental probing—that suggest the use of internal models and flexible decision-making throughout learning.Zhu Z, Kuchibhotla KV.
