Dr. Martin Luther King said this, "In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." In this episode, I unpack this idea of "silent friends" by sharing a very personal childhood memory. This is a super vulnerable story, but I have felt the Lord reminding me of it in this season where I have been trying to understand racial justice more. I think everyone can relate to at least one person in my story. I hope that it provokes you to also ponder and try to hear what the Lord is saying to us in terms of how to take action and help, as individuals and as the Body of Christ, to be allies with our minority brother and sisters.

Hi friends! Today I’m excited to introduce you to my friends, Dan and Nikki Garlic. We have been friends for about 20 years. Dan and I met at a prayer meeting when I was a college student and he was a graduate student. We used to pray almost daily together that year with other students for revival on our campus. I was blessed to become friends with Nikki when they were dating and engaged. We got to attend each others weddings, hold each other’s babies, and enjoy each other's friendship over the years.   

Today we are continuing the conversation about racial justice. I wanted to share their perspective with you because,  

1. They are our dear friends  

2. They both LOVE the Lord and are always praying. 

3. They are each so intelligent and thoughtful.   

They both graduated from an Ivy League University. Dan has his Masters degree and is an educator. Nikki is a lawyer, has a Masters degree, and is currently pursuing her PhD. I was deeply moved by this hope-filled and honest conversation and I pray that it touches and encourages your heart as well. Thank you so much Dan and Nikki for sharing your lives and thoughts with us.

Hi friends! I love how celebrities like BTS, Megan Markle, Jeremy Lin, Steph Curry, Rihanna, etc. are using their platforms to speak out for racial justice. But something I have been personally challenged about is as Christians, are we using our platforms to speak out against the racial injustices in our day? Will the church rise up and use our voice or will we be silent and become irrelevant to this broken and hurting world? I feel like the Lord is saying that this is a time for all of us to lean in, listen, learn, and make changes if changes need to be made. (I am examining my own heart on this topic and asking the Lord to search me.) And will we as the Body of Christ start investing our time and finances in order to see the racial inequalities end in our day, even if it's costly?  

I am SO THANKFUL that there are some churches and ministers speaking up about this issue, but can you imagine if the ENTIRE Body of Christ united and joined together in this hour to be a bright and shining light to this world? I personally think if we united together and did that, people in the world would start falling in love with our true and real Savior, Jesus Christ.   

*I am just sharing some beginning thoughts here. There are generations of complexities to this topic, so please just hear my heart in this as I am honestly just trying to learn more myself. Thank you for listening!
