In this episode of The Joy CEO Podcast, I’m diving into a topic that’s been truly transformative in my own leadership journey: forgiveness. For so many high-achieving professionals, the weight we carry isn’t just from deadlines or responsibilities—it’s from unhealed moments of the past.
I share the four types of forgiveness that have helped me and my clients find more peace and clarity: forgiving your younger self, your parents, your past blockers, and everyone else. Each represents a “rock” we’ve been carrying—one we can finally choose to set down.
I also introduce what I call the Hula Hoop Principle, a simple but powerful mindset shift that helps you focus on what’s actually within your control and release what isn’t.
To help you put these ideas into practice, I close the episode with a seven-day “Forgive to Win” challenge—a gentle invitation to lighten your emotional load, one day at a time, and make space for more joy, confidence, and ease in your leadership.

In this reflective and energizing episode of The Joy CEO Podcast, Lori explores how seasonal transitions—especially the shift from summer to fall—can become powerful opportunities for recalibration. Instead of rushing headfirst into the September “pileup,” Lori invites high-achieving professionals to embrace the wisdom of pausing, filtering outdated goals, and leaning into intentional clarity.
Drawing from personal stories (including the discipline of preseason training) and her signature four-step reset process, Lori shares how to realign with purpose, take bold yet aligned action, and sustain momentum through joy. This conversation is not about doing more—it’s about doing the right things, at the right time, with the right energy.
If you’re ready to trade burnout for balance and scattered ambition for seasonal clarity, this episode is your reset button.
🔑 Key Takeaways:
1. Seasonal Shifts Hold Strategic Wisdom
Just as nature moves in cycles, so do our lives and work. Pausing to reflect and recalibrate after summer helps avoid overwhelm and fosters sustainable success.
2. Outdated Goals Weigh You Down
Not every goal set in January still serves you in September. Lori encourages filtering and releasing what no longer aligns.
3. The Four-Step Reset Process
Lori introduces a practical framework to reclaim clarity: Pause, Filter, Align, Act. This structured reflection creates space for intentional growth.
4. Discipline Builds Freedom
Drawing on her preseason training story, Lori reminds listeners that consistency and small disciplined actions create the foundation for joyful momentum.
5. Joy Is a Leadership Strategy
Success sustained without joy isn’t true success. Joy must be built into your systems and choices—not treated as an afterthought.

Summary:
In this honest and empowering solo episode, Lori Pine unpacks a leadership reality few talk about—the “joy dip.” Even the most accomplished leaders can find themselves momentarily diminished when comparing their journey to someone else’s highlight reel. Drawing from her own humbling moment at a world-class workshop, Lori gives language to that subtle but powerful feeling of disconnection from our worth.
The “joy dip” isn’t a sign you’re failing—it’s a natural part of growth. Lori shares a practical playbook to move through it: name the dip to stop the shame spiral, take inventory of your real accomplishments, lean on your support network, shift your focus to serving others, and remember that joy isn’t just a reward at the finish line—it’s the fuel that powers you to lead with authenticity and courage.
If you’ve ever felt like your light dimmed in the shadow of someone else’s success, this episode will help you reclaim your brilliance and lead from a place of joy again.
🔑 Key Takeaways:
Name It to Tame It
Identifying when you’re in a “joy dip” interrupts the spiral of self-doubt and comparison.
Do a Brag Inventory
List your genuine accomplishments—big and small—to reconnect with the truth of your impact.
Borrow Strength from Your Circle
Lean on mentors, peers, and friends to remind you of your value when you temporarily forget it.
Serve to Shift Your Focus
Helping others breaks the inward focus that fuels comparison.
Joy Is the Fuel, Not the Finish Line
Understand the need for the pause.
Waiting for joy until you “arrive” limits your leadership energy—practice it now.
