We discuss the Netflix show Kaos in this episode. As a childhood mythology enthusiast, Juniper was excited to check out this modern-day take on Greek Gods and their petty shenanigans, and Elle gamely suffered along. Marketed as a dark comedy, the show struck us as neither particularly funny nor entertaining. It tried to be too much and ended up being not much of anything. Our sentiment may be controversial, but it is a disappointing lost opportunity to have invested so much time, effort, and talent in a promising concept and then fall so flat.

After watching many Chinese dramas, we decided to branch out into Chinese film and ended up watching 2022 movie "Lost in the Stars.” Somehow it left Elle feeling bamboozled and Juniper wanting her time back. The drama gods delivered two Chinese costume dramas at the end of summer that had us scrambling to decide which to watch. “Are You The One”《柳舟记》and “Go East” 《四方馆》turned out to be pleasant surprises, and we find ourselves juggling both. If you are a fan of Tan Jianci 檀健次 or Zhang Wanyi 张晚意, if you like laugh-out-loud comedy or sweet romance, or if you just enjoy a nice looking solid acting cast, give these a try. They are two very different shows that are a joy to watch in their own ways, and we plan to watch both until the end.

Having finally watched Lost You Forever, Season 1 (better late than never!) we pour forth our thoughts about the story and characters. Elle had read the book and looked forward to the adaptation, while Juniper had trepidations. After 39 episodes, we have many feelings. There are various things and people to love (here’s looking at you, Xiang Liu!) and some main characters we could live without in season 2. We have so much to talk about!

Lost Romance, a 2020 Taiwanese romantic comedy, is quite the hidden gem. If you haven’t watched it, check it out. Don’t be fooled by the premise (it is not another Romance of Tiger and Rose) or deterred by the first 2 episodes. It’s well worth your while. Juniper certainly felt that way after putting off watching it for nearly 4 years. And Elle is so happy Juniper didn’t miss out. So much fun, and Marcus Chang, too!
