In this episode, I'm joined by Certified Nurse Midwife, Sakina O'Uhuru, RPA, CM, MS with Gentle Spirit Midwifery Services. She has extensive knowledge in the field, providing maternal/child health care services since 1984. She  has diverse clinical experience in pediatrics, OB/GYN, Family Planning and primary care. Up until 1996, she practiced as a Certified Physician Assistant providing care to women and children throughout community hospitals and health centers within the New York metropolitan area. In 1997, she earned an M.S. from the SUNY Downstate Midwifery Program, becoming  board Certified in 1998. For five years, she served as the Director of the Midwifery Service at Morris Heights Women’s Health & Birthing Pavilion (formerly known as the Childbearing Center. Today, she treats women in the New York, and New Jersey area, as well as the Carolinas. She is also the author of Journey to Birth. Available here on Amazon. 

Gentle Spirit Midwifery also provides educational forums to community organizations, educational programs, for at risk women and other educational institutions. In this episode, I'm speaking with Jasmine Evelyn, pelvic health physiotherapist and yoga teacher at Mindful Movement in the beautiful Barbados. Today, we discuss a couple pelvic floor conditions, pelvic organ prolapse and pain with sex. We also discuss stigma around pelvic floor PT in Barbados and in the US as well as self care. 

Jasmine's love of movement led her to a career in physiotherapy and later to complete her 200hr yoga teacher training. This combination of yoga and physiotherapy gives Jasmine a unique insight into movement. She aims to share mindfulness through the practice of yoga, always aiming to become more self aware and find peace of mind. This especially helps in her pelvic health practice, using yoga as a tool to help patients to connect with themselves and their pelvises.
