In this episode, I'm joined by Certified Nurse Midwife, Sakina O'Uhuru, RPA, CM, MS with Gentle Spirit Midwifery Services. She has extensive knowledge in the field, providing maternal/child health care services since 1984. She has diverse clinical experience in pediatrics, OB/GYN, Family Planning and primary care. Up until 1996, she practiced as a Certified Physician Assistant providing care to women and children throughout community hospitals and health centers within the New York metropolitan area. In 1997, she earned an M.S. from the SUNY Downstate Midwifery Program, becoming board Certified in 1998. For five years, she served as the Director of the Midwifery Service at Morris Heights Women’s Health & Birthing Pavilion (formerly known as the Childbearing Center. Gentle Spirit Midwifery also provides educational forums to community organizations, educational programs, for at risk women and other educational institutions. Sakina has been featured on Discovery Channel's Birth Beyond Belief and Bringin in Da Spirit, a documentary directed by Rhonda Haynes on African American Midwives.
