  • Unlawful Captives: Lawrence Ghana Hayes 12.1
Hosted By:  Jason X Guest: Lawrence Ghana Hayes I spent two-and-a-half years in the New York State death house and can genuinely tell every ear that wants to hear, No! The death house is more than a place, it’s a reflection of everything a society values, all wrapped into one.  It is what is wrong and evil and cursed about any society’s collective conscience.  It’s a reflection of the collective soul and consciousness, and a warning sign or statement to the collective people of a society that is reflective of the meaning and value that that society’s ruling classes possesses for the sanctity of life. • Creatively SpeakingLive at the MIST Theatre Harlem NY11.25
Hosts Michelle Materre and Aisha Karefa-Smart broadcasts live from the MIST Theatre enjoying the grand opening of The My Image Studio Theatre (MIST) in Harlem, NY and the premiere of the film Otelo Burning. MIST Harlem (My Image Studios) is New York City’s long-anticipated new cultural entertainment center that’s poised to become a leading showcase for independent black and Latino cinema. Designed by A. Jay Hibbs of Hibbs Architects in Wappingers Falls, New York, MIST Harlem boasts 20,000 square feet with three state-of-the-art theaters-two with 92-seats each and a third with 164 seats to present film, music, live spoken word, and theater from African and Latino Diaspora. The new venue also features a 130-seat restaurant named Harvist, a lobby bar, as well as an outdoor bar and dining area. OTELO BURNING also won the Golden Owl Audience Award for Best Film at Cinerama BC Brazil and Best South African Film at the Cape Winelands Film Festival. Based on true events, the story unfolds as three teenage friends – Otelo, New Year, and Mandla – look for an escape through a time of turmoil in the township of Lamontville, South Africa and discover freedom through the joy of surfing. Shot in picturesque Durban, OTELO BURNING is a strikingly dynamic portrait of hope and growth for a group of proud adolescents and a nation itself. The next film will be Elza. Elza is inspired by director Mariette Monpierre’s personal story of searching for her biological father in her native Guadeloupe. With a reported 50% of African American and Caribbean children estranged from their fathers, the issue that Monpierre addresses is a real one. In many cases, these communities have a history of slavery, while in others the father simply neglects his responsibilities. As the story unfolds, the deep-rooted ELZA presents a breathtaking look at the troubling hardships that lay beneath the sun-kissed Caribbean island.

  • Respect For Life Bro. Leroy The Black Male Agenda & History
7pm-8pm Raymond Shorter; The Black Male Agenda Bowie State University. Shorter is the reason Minister Farrakhan spoke at that Black institution. And, when we accomplished that a few weeks ago the campus has remained lit up from his presentation." Hear the background to how Minister Farrakhan was invited to speak at Bowie State University. The prime mover is The Black Male Agenda (2008) for advancing academic excellence and developing responsible Black males,  the Freshman students crisis and its impact on all Black male students at Bowie and how it led to the historic presentation by Minister Farrakhan at Bowie State University. 8pm-9pm Historian, David Head and  Chemical-Engineer Rodney Dotson will discuss one of the most prolific inventors fueling the Industrial Revolution, Granville T. Woods. Hear the powerful significance of Granville T. Woods' inventive life to Black students, parents and educators and the introduction of STEM to Black youth. Science, Technology, Engineering and Math were early ingredients in Granville T. Woods' life. His hands-on experience in a blacksmith shop can be duplicated in less challenging environments such as gardening, auto-mechanics, breaking down and rebuilding computers, etc. What you want to learn is how STEM was realized in a blacksmith shop.   David Head is based in Detroit and is active in bringing the Granville T. Woods story into classrooms and museums in that city.  Mr Head also has a book soon to be published on the inventor.  Meanwhile, Rodney Dotson has created the Talent Development Network dedicated to accelerating math and science learning among inner city youth.
