Dr. Nanos and Annie Clark are joined by Kind Health Group's very own April DeMaggio. April has been a Physician Assistant for 20 years. Today, they discuss the importance of Telemedicine and Telehealth and how the need for it has increased since the pandemic. They also go into great detail about the symptoms, treatments, and more related to COVID-19.
April graduated from the Stanford School of Medicine PA program in 2002 and immediately started practicing in primary care in a Family Practice setting. In 2007, she added aesthetics to her practice. She feels that if someone has entrusted you or chosen you to care for them when they are sick or vulnerable, that is a special relationship that is unlike any other.
Dr. Nanos and Annie are joined by the incredible Dr. Laura McPeake. Dr. Laura McPeake is an emergency medicine physician in Providence, Rhode Island. Together, they discuss how the pandemic is affecting her and her team, what her hospital is doing to manage patients, and Dr. McPeake even leads them in a guided meditation. From the East Side Monthly article, "One with Medicine": McPeake brings a unique, long-term passion to her work: meditation. She had practiced it many years before starting medical school and was a founding member of a meditation center in Washington, D.C., during college. She found her meditative practice to be intrinsic to self-care and promoting motivation and productivity, and she decided to share those with other medical professionals, which led to her “relatively new” current program position. She recently completed a master’s degree in Behavioral and Social Health Sciences through Brown’s School of Public Health, which emphasized “seeing physicians as a public health population” due to the burnout they often experience – especially in EM.
