The Kingdom Behind Your Anxiety

Listen Later

Be honest — anxiety is exhausting.

Whether it's your job, your relationships, your future, or just the general feeling that something could go wrong at any moment... most of us are carrying more than we let on.

In this message from Luke 12:22-34, Pastor Sam Weitman tackles one of the most quoted — and most misunderstood — passages in the entire Bible. You know the one. "Consider the lilies." It's on coffee mugs, wall art, and Instagram posts everywhere. But what if we've been reading it wrong this whole time?

Here's what this message will challenge you to think about:

🌿 Why "don't be anxious" isn't a promise that everything will work out the way you hope

💰 The surprising reason the rich man in Jesus' story was called a fool (it wasn't because he had money)

🔑 The difference between building your own kingdom and seeking God's — and why that changes everything

🪨 What your worry reveals about what you treasure most

❤️ The tender, unexpected thing Jesus says to his disciples in the middle of chaos

Whether you've followed Jesus for decades or you're just spiritually curious, this one is worth your time. Pastor Sam doesn't sugarcoat it, and he doesn't give you a tidy five-step fix.

But what he does give you is something better — an honest look at why we're anxious and what it might mean to actually live differently.

What's one thing you've been anxious about lately — and what kingdom does it point to?

Luke 12:22-34

Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

“Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
