Good Morning! Episode 4 is now live. This week I had the opportunity to travel virtually with my good friend and sister Mariama Keita. We talk about her journey living in NYC as 1st generation Guinean- American to working for organizations including BET, UNICEF & USAID as a leading communications expert. In addition, Mariama shares practical tips for application about personal branding, starting a career in international development and how one can obtain a job in a government/international organizations.
About Mariama
Mariama Ciré Keïta is a leading Communicator for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), recognized at the highest level of foreign service for her work increasing the global awareness of investments and impact of USAID humanitarian assistance programs across the continent of Africa. This includes organizational work in global heath, agriculture, governance, catalyzing innovation, empowering youth, women and girls’ programs.
For the past 10 years, Mariama has worked in the New York flagship front offices for the United Nations – UNICEF, UNFPA, UNAIDS – creating first of its kind advocacy platforms for the voices of world leaders, athletes, influencers committed to take action, transform lives and economies in developing countries.
Truly a global citizen as a native New Yorker with Guinean heritage; Mariama’s international field experience covers over 25 countries and her expertise serves corporate, philanthropic, multilateral initiatives between the continent of Africa and the United States.
She has earned a Master of Science degree in Global Affairs from New York University, Bachelor’s degree in Communication from the University of Maryland at College Park. She is also an alumna of Columbia University Community Scholar and White House Internship programs. As a gender champion, Mariama is committed to mentorship and advancing the professional development of women as the founder of How I Make A Difference (HOIMA) Initiative.
