Fifteen years ago, a small group of individuals set up a radio station on Amherst Island (just west of Kingston) pushing out a variety of programs with a 250 watt transmitter.  Ten years ago, Eric Tremblay joined as a volunteer and developed a passion for promoting CJAI-FM.  Currently, as President of the Station’s Board of Directors, he directs that enthusiasm as one of 70 volunteers looking to ‘build the tower’ to increase its reach with a new 4,800-watt transmitter.

Kingston native, Doug McClement, began recording other musicians back in the late 60’s.  After some 4,000 recordings, Doug’s focus these days is more on sound for TV and film.  He has also worked on sound for the medal ceremonies at each of the Olympic Games since Sochi.  For almost 30 years, he has been an instructor at the Harris Institute, teaching the next generation of sound engineers.  All of that, and more great stories, in this episode of The Kingstonian Podcast.

Doug McClement is a highly respected sound engineer, who also happens to be a great storyteller.  Born and raised in Kingston, he started his career by playing in local bands but soon discovered recording music was a better fit than playing it.  In Part 1 of our conversation, we trace his career from the early days recording others in the coffee houses in Kingston to doing the same for the biggest names in Toronto.
