Absolutely! I’ve had a diverse career, starting with over 27 years in the U.S. Army where I reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. My experience involved leading teams of up to 150 soldiers and managing millions of dollars in equipment. This foundation in leadership and operational oversight has been invaluable.

That’s amazing! Transitioning from military to civilian life can be a challenge. How did you take your skills from the Army into your civilian roles?

After honorably retiring, I moved into various technical roles such as a Heavy Diesel Technician and then a Security Supervisor. Most recently, I’ve been a Shift Supervisor at Carroll Beck Security Services. Here, I lead security teams, manage operations, and ensure compliance with safety protocols, using the technical and leadership skills honed in the military.

It’s fascinating how those military values shape your work ethic. I understand you’re particularly interested in BAE Systems. What draws you to that specific company?

Onyx: BAE Systems is a leading force in defense, aerospace, and security. They have a mission to protect national security and advance technological innovation, which resonates strongly with my professional values. I believe I can contribute to their projects that have real-world impact, while also growing within a renowned organization.

Nova: Speaking of teamwork, can you share how you work within a team environment? What does that look like for you?

Onyx: I thrive in team settings, whether I'm in a leadership position or supporting my colleagues. For instance, as a Shift Supervisor, I managed a diverse security team during film productions—high stakes and high pressure! Clear communication and respect for each member's strengths were crucial to our success.

And I bet those high-pressure situations taught you a lot! Can you give us an example?

Onyx: Certainly! As a Platoon Sergeant, I managed over $500 million worth of equipment. During one mission, we faced unexpected logistical challenges. I quickly reassessed the situation, delegated tasks, and kept everyone focused on solutions rather than problems. We completed the mission on time with all personnel accounted for.
