June carves out a niche to insure that we discuss a female directed film, and this month we have one from only the third woman from the sound era to direct a Hollywood movie. Elaine May was a comic, an actor and the comedy partner of Mike Nichols. Her directing vita is narrow but filled with interesting, if not always successful films. Naturally to celebrate women making movies, we have five guys talking about this month's selection. Mikey and Nicky is an unusual gangster film, and it provokes wide ranging opinions, which you will hear on this episode. Don't wait for a towel to drop from the sky, this is the spot where you can find the podcast.
This week we go Back to the Future, it's 1985 and there are films you may not have heard about, seen, or caught up with yet. Marty and Doc Brown don't make it to the show but Dave Anderson, David Brook, Howard Casner and Todd Liebenow do. We have Hong Kong Action Films, Forgotten Films, and Spielberg Clones to fill your Television Screen with. If you like Zombies, Kung Fu, Depressing WWII stories and Geriatric Science Fiction, this is a show you won't want to miss.
This week we have two guests on the show, who have written movie related books, and spend some time talking with us about those books. Eric Friedman was a guest two years ago when his second book was published, and now the third book in his trilogy is available. Kristen Lopez, a long time Lamb, and now an editor on "The Wrap", has partnered with TCM, and her book is a compendium of book and movie adaptions. Come listen to some friendly conversation about books, movies and life.
Four Lambs enter, one Lamb leaves, that is after you vote for the Summer Season that you think is the Greatest. Dave Anderson leads off with what could be a knockout punch, but Todd Liebenow follows up with a strong right cross and Nick Rehak has a solid uppercut. Richard Jabs and moves but has a good combination to finish off. You are the judges. Come listen to us talk about the summer films of 1975, 1984, 1987 and 2008. There are some great films and a couple that should result in a TKO or a disqualification for hitting below the belt. Get your scorecards ready and then vote on the Lamb Site.
The scheduled host who had championed "Fantasia" to victory in the poll, was unable to join the show, but we had four fans of the film who more than make up for that. Howard Casner takes a seat in the spot we keep warm for him and Bubbawheat remembers at the last minute that it is this week's show that he is scheduled for. We kept Doug Jamison from the Jam Report in Australia, up into the wee hours of the morning to discuss this lengthy concert film. Download or listen on line as we talk about each of the eight segments that make up this anthology of classical music and animation.
The Guardians of the Lambcast show up this week to guide you through a trip to the theaters. James Gunn's Guardians Finale comes under the microscope and peering through the lens are Nick Rehak, Amanda Kirkham and Jeanette Ward. Our general thoughts are enthusiastic, but there are a few reservations. The team ranked the Guardians film, talked about our favorite sequences, and warns all of you that there are some emotional buttons that are about to be pushed. Animal lovers' be warned. Also. Nathan Fillion gets some props along the way. We also have an answer to this week's exit question, and a certain frozen soldier shows up in part one of everyone's list. So, lets' all fly away together... one more time... into the forever and beautiful sky.
All of us have those films in our back pocket that we have been meaning to get to. Sometimes it is a documentary that the whole world is talking about but you haven’t been able to generate enough interest to stream it. Maybe it is a film from the Sight and Sound Poll, AFI or BFI film lists, or maybe just something everyone has talked about, except you, because you haven't seen it. This week, Nicole Ayers, Howard Casner, David Brook, Todd Liebenow and the Vern join the show to share their blind spots. We also take our blindfolds off for one film before we finish. And we decide that maybe we should have kept them on for something else. Come listen in and find out where everyone needs to expand their horizons.
Howard Casner wins the MOTM Franchise Poll for a second time, and he joins us for a deep dive into the themes and cultural influences of the four films made based on Jack Finney's 1954 science fiction novel. We talk Pod People, 50s conventionality, 70s paranoia, 90s youth emphasis and 2007's prescient contagion themes. If you think remakes are worthless, you should listen to a compelling argument that takes place during this show. There is consistency in our rankings, but some great talk about why those rankings are valid. So don't go to sleep on us and wake up a pod-person, instead be a podcast person and join us for this show.
Two Lambs who don't suck, show up to tell us if the new Nic Cage movie does. Former Host Jay Cluitt rises from the grave to give us his opinion and Howard Casner puts a stake in the heart of movie audiences and critics who don't get post modernism. "Renfield" is a vampire picture more interested in laughs than in horror, and this week we dig into whether or not that approach works. We also have a game for all the bloodsuckers who stick around for the full show, and as a bonus, we talk a little about our own favorite vampire films. Come sink your teeth into this week's episode.
What's that behind you? Surely not! No! It can't be! It's Lambpardy time!
After an unintentional hiatus Lambpardy is back, and this time it's spooky! This is the first show in the third tournament year, and also the first of a mini horror tournament! There are hopefully two more horror-special shows to come, followed by a horror final with the winners of those three shows, and the champion from that show will go on to face two other second-round winners from non-horror themed shows, and the winner of that show will face the tournament winners from 2021 and 2022! If you're new to Lambpardy, fear not, this is a great starting point as all of this show's guests were also first time contestants, so let's get on with the show!
