Welcome to the very first episode of the Landscaping Safety Podcast.
In this episode, host John Bongiovanni introduces himself, his background, and the reason behind starting a podcast dedicated specifically to safety in the landscaping and green industries.
Drawing from more than three decades in emergency services—including firefighting, EMS, law enforcement EMS, and critical care flight medicine—along with years of experience working in landscaping, parks, forestry, and as a lawn and landscape business owner, John explains how those two worlds come together in this show.
We talk about what workplace safety really means, why it matters, and why safety has to be more than simply following rules or checking boxes. The goal of this podcast is to get landscapers, arborists, lawn care professionals, crew leaders, and business owners thinking differently about the hazards they face every day—and how small decisions can have life-changing consequences.
Then, in our first Post-Incident Review, we examine the tragic death of a female landscaper who was operating a mower near a pond when the machine overturned into the water. She became pinned beneath the surface and drowned.
We break down the incident, discuss the hazards involved, and look at the practical lessons every landscaping professional can take back to the jobsite.
No blame. Just respect, education, and lessons learned.
Because the goal is simple: helping you, your crew, and our industry make it home safe after every shift.
Safety. Health. Performance.
